Good to know

  • The Green Electricity Guide was developed taking 6 criteria into account: that the companies provide clean, renewable energy; they're committed to ending coal use by 2030; they're halting fossil fuel expansion; their support for new renewable energy; transparency in marketing; and pollution and environmental harm.
  • 28 of the 48 providers that were rated in the Green Electricity Guide scored 3 stars or below.
  • 76% of Australia's electricity still comes from the burning of fossil fuels.
  • If you don't want to switch energy plans, you could add on anywhere between 10% and 100% GreenPower that will allow companies to send renewable energy to grid on your behalf. It'll cost you about $150 per year if you opt for 100% GreenPower.
