Google Play scam
In April 2024, Google sued two Chinese nationals in New York federal court, accusing them of misusing its Google Play app store to scam thousands of users out of their money through cryptocurrency investment apps. Google said the alleged fraudsters Yunfeng Sun and Hongnam Cheung engaged in a "social engineering" scheme to lure victims to their apps through text messages and What's App.

Hi Ala,
Finder is a review and comparison site, and our ratings are based on factors such as transparency, security, and verified track records. While it is good to hear you had a positive experience, many services that claim to recover lost cryptocurrency are flagged as high-risk. This is because private companies do not have the legal authority to reverse blockchain transactions or freeze wallets; these actions require the involvement of law enforcement or a specific court order to an exchange.
We maintain a cautious approach to reviewing recovery services to help protect readers from “recovery scams” where providers charge fees without returning any funds. For more information on staying safe, our cryptocurrency guide will help you compare options.
Hope this helps!

Hi Louis,
You can check suspicious websites using the government’s scam check website. I just checked welt-schatz.com, and it said the site was created on November 25, 2024 and has been marked as suspicious and has a low trust score. Your instincts to proceed with caution could be right. Hope this helps!
Follow up on Welt-Schatz…
They are definitely a scam – my wife was caught up in their spiel.
Web site (welt-schatz.com) is hidden behind a WordPress password page which stops it being visible to search engines.
The internal web site is a pretty good fake but, they claim to have 4 international offices and more than 100 employees but no Googling shows them anywhere.
Hi Graham, Welt-Schatz does not appear to be registered with ASIC or Austrac, meaning they are not regulated by Australian authorities. Regardless of whether they are truely a scam platform (and it looks like there’s a strong possibility), it’s important any investment platform you sign up to is Australian regulated as this means you are protected.
Do you know “Welt Schatz” Crypto Exchange? is it a scam?
