Our verdict
Australian Unity's Freedom Saver offers a strong interest rate with no withdrawal and deposit conditions, plus zero monthly fees.
The Australian Unity Freedom Saver account has one of the higher ongoing interest rates on the market. And on top of that it has no monthly account fees and no withdrawal or deposit conditions. This means you can earn the maximum interest rate just by putting your savings in the account.
The only downside is that the interest rate decreases for higher balances. So any money you put there above $50,000 earns interest at a lower rate.
Pros
-
4.35% p.a. ongoing, standard variable rate
-
No deposit or withdrawal conditions
-
No monthly fees
Cons
-
Maximum interest rate only applies to the first $50,000

Hi,
Yes, the Freedom Saver Account is required to have a linked Australian Unity Transaction Account. You will get both accounts at the same time when you complete the online application (you don’t have to do 2 x applications!).
Hope this helps,
Alison

What is a linked transaction account?

Hi, this is the bank account with Australian Unity that you’ll have open in your name along with the savings account. You can transfer money between your savings and bank account in order to then spend it with the debit card if you need.
Thanks,
Alison.

Just seeing if it “has” to have an everyday account linked or am I able to just create the online saver. (I am an NDIS support worker and asking on behalf of my participant. :) Thank you.
