TPG and iiNet just made their cheapest mobile plan more expensive. Still worth it?

TPG and iiNet have changed the discount and ongoing price of their small mobile plan, but you'll get more data in return.
TPG and iiNet have both bumped up the price of their small mobile plans by $5 a month.
But you're getting more for your money. The data allowance has increased by 5GB, and you now get access to Vodafone's 4G and 5G networks.
Previously, the plan only included 4G access.
TPG owns iiNet, and both providers offer the exact same plans, with the same prices, data inclusions and features.
Here's a look at their full roster of plans with the new pricing.
| Plan | Price | Data allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Small | $15 a month for the first 6 months, then $30 a month ongoing | 30GB |
| Medium | $17.50 a month for the first 6 months, then $35 a month ongoing | 50GB |
| Large | $22.50 a month for the first 6 months, then $45 a month ongoing | 100GB |
The small plan's discounted price for the first 6 months has also gone up, from $12.50 a month to $15.
Are TPG and iiNet's mobile plans still worth it?
The price on the small plan still adds up, particularly when you factor in the 6-month discount.
For the full year, you'll be about $270 out of pocket for a decent amount of data each month.
Based on ACCC research, the average Aussie uses around 14.5GB of data each month, so if you're an average user, 30GB should give you plenty of buffer too.
Having said all that, as a consumer, it can be concerning to see yet another price hike story.
We also recently reported that ALDI Mobile is getting rid of its cheapest $23 prepaid plan at the end of the month.
Plus, Optus is also raising the price of its prepaid plans around the same time, with 28-day expiry plans increasing by $5 per recharge.
The 186- and 365-day options will rise by $20 and $45, respectively.
