Belong mobile is now offering international roaming for $30 over 15 days. Here's what you need to know before signing up.

If you're a customer of Telstra's budget mobile provider Belong, you'll now gain access to international roaming.

The mobile provider has kept it pretty simple, offering just a single add-on feature. It'll set you back $30 for 15 days.

What does Belong's international roaming pack include?

Belong's new international roaming pack is pretty straightforward. You'll get access to:

  • 3GB of data
  • Unlimited standard SMS
  • 150 minutes of calls

Where can you use Belong's international roaming pack?

If you're looking to take your plan overseas, it'll work in the following 30 countries:

Austria, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Fiji, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Latvia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA, and Vanuatu.

While this is a strong list, it does fall short of the international roaming add-ons being offered by the big 3 telcos:

  • Telstra - Lets you travel with your device to over 70 destinations
  • Optus - Will work in over 100 zone 1 countries
  • Vodafone - Will also let you travel with your phone in over 100 countries, all for its famous $5 a day deal.

Although in all fairness to Belong, it is the smallest mobile provider that offers international roaming.

How does this compare with the big 3 telcos?

When it comes to pricing, Belong actually comes out well against than the major telcos.

Telstra, Vodafone and Optus will all set you back $5 a day if you're in a Zone 1 country, or even more if you are in a country outside of the Zone.

So Belong's $30 for 15 days (or $2 a day) stacks up quite nicely.

On the data front, you'll get less with Belong compared with the other 3. Belong's 3GB for 15 days pales in comparison with Optus' 5GB a day. However, you may not need that much data while you are travelling, especially if you're happy to connect to free WiFi.

You also have less countries covered with Belong's international roaming when compared to the other 3, so keep that in mind before travelling.
