Accor Live Limitless bonus points deal: Check the fine print

6,000 Rewards points up for grabs, but the timing is tight.

Just like airlines, hotel chains want to persuade customers to start travelling again. My most active hotel loyalty membership is with Accor Live Limitless. It has a bonus rewards points offer (check your email if you're a member) right now. It's slightly tempting, but not ridiculously so.

Here's the deal. If I book a 2-night stay at a participating hotel for a stay between 1 September and 15 December 2020, I get 500 extra reward points. Book a second 2-night stay and I get 2,500. Book a third and there's another 3,000 reward points. That's 6,000 all up.

The first obvious constraint is those dates. It's hard to be super-confident I'll be able to travel outside New South Wales during that time. And as I've noted recently, there aren't too many choices for places to fly to. (I don't drive, so road trips are out.)

The second is the cut-off date. I need to make all the bookings by 9 October 2020 to qualify. I'm not sure I've got capacity for organising three weekends away during that time, even assuming I can find places I want to visit and can actually get to.

Accor is Australia's largest hotel chain, so there are lots of properties to choose from, especially since it bought out Mantra in 2018. But those options are predominantly in major urban areas. The choices in regional New South Wales are more limited, and some of those are a little pricier than I'd normally want to pay.

Bottom line? I activated the offer since I do want to start thinking about a couple of socially-distanced weekends away before the end of the year and I might as well get the extra points if I can. But I'm not going to let it be the dominant factor in my planning.
