The Ledger Nano Gen5 isn't just another hardware wallet. In fact, Ledger doesn't even call it that anymore. It's a "signer", designed to give you complete control over your digital life, not just your crypto.
With a sleek touchscreen, customisation options, and the same industry-leading Secure Element chip that Ledger is known for, the Gen5 makes self-custody simpler, safer and a lot more intuitive.

What's new?
The Ledger Nano Gen5 ushers in what Ledger calls "the next era of digital ownership." It's part of Ledger's major brand evolution:
- Ledger Wallet replaces Ledger Live as the all-in-one app for sending, receiving, staking and swapping crypto
- The term "signer" replaces "hardware wallet," reflecting that these devices don't store your crypto, they sign transactions securely.
- Ledger's mission now expands beyond crypto to include digital identity, app logins and AI approvals.
From hardware wallet to signer
Ledger says the old term "hardware wallet" is outdated, as crypto isn't stored on the device itself. Instead, the Gen5 acts as a signer, verifying your intent every time you transact, connect to apps, or log in online. It's a small shift in language, but it's meant to clarify what these devices actually do.
Design and usability
The Nano Gen5 is Ledger's most accessible and "playful" device yet. The touchscreen makes it intuitive for beginners and the ability to customise it with badges and covers adds a touch of personality missing from previous models.
Setup remains straightforward through the Ledger Wallet app, which now serves as a true command centre for your digital assets including staking, swapping and sending payments.
It's still compact and lightweight, making it ideal for everyday use or travel.
Security
As always, Ledger's calling card is security. The Gen5 continues to use the Secure Element chip (CC EAL5+), the same tech used in credit cards and passports, to isolate your private keys from online threats.
Each device includes a certified Secure Screen, so you can visually confirm every transaction, which is a key protection against phishing and malware.
