Our verdict

  • Modification cover is available with a separate agreed value, making this a strong option for owners who have customised their van.
  • New caravan replacement is included for caravans under 24 months old where you are the first registered owner, a standout benefit not offered by all providers.
  • Club 4X4 only offers one cover tier, so it won't suit those looking for a more basic or budget third-party option.

What cover options does it offer?

Unlike most caravan insurers that offer tiered cover levels, Club 4X4 offers a single comprehensive caravan and camper trailer insurance policy. This way, customers will receive full protection for and peace of mind whether they're on sealed roads or remote tracks.

Comprehensive cover includes accidental damage (caused by you or a third party), theft, malicious damage and vandalism, storm and weather events, flood, fire and legal liability up to $20 million. It also includes a range of unique benefits tailored to off-road and long-haul travellers, such as off-road recovery, personal effects cover and campsite booking reimbursement.

Because Club 4X4 doesn't offer third-party-only options, this product is best suited to caravan owners who want complete coverage rather than those looking for minimum-cost cover.

What additional cover options are there?

Club 4X4's comprehensive caravan insurance policy comes with a strong set of standard inclusions, but there are also optional upgrades available:

  • Off-road recovery upgrade. The base policy includes up to $1,500 in professional recovery costs. You can upgrade this to $5,000, $15,000 or $30,000 depending on how remote your adventures take you.
  • Modification cover. Modifications and accessories can be covered at a separate agreed value, useful for caravans that have been significantly upgraded or customised.

What exclusions are there?

As with all insurance policies, there are general exclusions to be aware of. Club 4X4's policy does not cover:

  • Wear and tear, mechanical breakdown or gradual deterioration
  • Damage that occurred before the policy started
  • Events that take place outside of Australia
  • Use of the caravan for business or commercial purposes
  • Damage caused by an unregistered caravan
  • Illegal or reckless use at the time of the incident
  • War or terrorism

What excess do I need to pay?

Whenever you make a claim, you’ll need to pay a basic excess. The amount will depend on your individual policy terms. Club 4X4 offers a faultless excess waiver. This means if an accident is agreed to be the fault of a third party and you provide the required details, Club 4X4 will waive your excess payment entirely. It’s worth noting additional excesses may apply in certain situations, so be sure to check your policy’s details.

How do I make a claim?

Club 4X4 offers several options for a straightforward claims process:

  1. Online: Manage or lodge a claim through the self-service portal at club4x4.com.au/claims
  2. By phone: Call Club 4X4 directly on 1300 296 296 (8AM - 6PM AEST, Monday to Friday)
  3. Policy management: Existing customers can update policy details or payment information through the online self-service tools.
