Terrorist attacks on planes a major fear for 45% of Aussies.

A fear of flying has long been a travel fear for many Australians, with at least four out of five (84%) listing flying as their major travel fear.

However, a recent study conducted by finder.com.au has found that terrorism was the reason why at least half of those people were afraid to fly.

The finder.com.au research found that more that half (51%) of gen Ys were worried about terrorism on a plane versus just 40% of baby boomers.

Recent events in London, Paris and most recently Barcelona have left many people cautious about travelling to Europe.

The number of Aussies heading abroad in the 12 months to July 2017 was up by 4%, with the number of people heading to Europe up by 3%, according to overseas departure statistics from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

However, the number of people heading to various Aussie staple destinations dropped. The number of Australians visiting France was down 7%, Germany down 5% and the UK down 1%.

If you're planning on heading abroad, make sure you check the government's smartraveller website to make sure you get the latest safety advice.

Remember, your travel insurance won't cover you if you travel to a country that has a governmental warning.
