Whether you live or die by what's written in the stars or think astrology is a load of rubbish (such is a Capricorn thing to think), your horoscope may reveal much about your money habits, according to new research from Finder.

Finder surveyed 2,086 Australians to determine the relationship between a person's star sign and their income, wealth and attitude to money.

Aquarius tops the list as the wealthiest star sign, with an impressive $41,975 in savings on average.

Libras come in second place ($37,806) and Cancers trail with just $13,075 in savings.

Rebecca Pike, money expert at Finder, said your personality can have a lot to do with your approach to money even if you're not an astrology fan.

"Whether you're into it or not, many Aussies love to know what their star sign means for their future – financial or romantic.

"Leos might be known for their ambition and dedication, but the truth is anyone can improve their financial position with just a few small changes."

The research found Tauruses save the most amount of money each month ($713) while Geminis save the most as a percentage of their income (28%).

Leos and Cancers are the biggest culprits on online shopping, each spending an average of $228 per week.

However, Leos make up for it with their investing habits, holding the largest share portfolio of the star signs ($22,407).

They are also the most likely to invest in cryptocurrency (28%).

Pike said setting up a dedicated savings fund was a good step towards building wealth.

"Keep it separate from your transaction account and try to top it up with at least 20% of your income each month.

"You also want to make sure your online shopping addiction or Uber Eats habit isn't standing in the way of your savings.

"Set up a budget and try to keep your 'fun' expenses within 30% of your earnings," Pike said.
