Fast track to Platinum with double earnings on new bookings.

Good news for Velocity frequent flyers: Virgin Australia has kicked off its newest double Status Credits campaign.

First, a quick refresher. Status Credits give you higher status with the airline, which in turn opens up better seat selection, lounge access and other freebies. The number of Status Credits varies depending on the length of the flight and the fare type. Longer trips and more expensive fares earn more.

During a double Status Credits offer, all those totals are doubled. That makes it easier to move onto a higher membership tier, or retain your current tier. For instance, a single Business Class flight from Sydney to Melbourne will earn 110 Status Credits during the promotion. That's almost half the 250 Status Credits needed to move to Silver status with Velocity.

The latest offer runs for bookings made from now 30 October 2023, and you have to take your flights before December 23 2023. That's a fairly tight time limit, but not altogether surprising for Virgin's second double status credits deal of the year.

You have to sign up online to activate the deal, but that's a simple process.

You can also earn Status Credits by linking your Flybuys account to your Velocity account and shopping at Coles.

Status Credits don't change the value of your Velocity Points, but if you accumulate enough to score lounge access, you'll appreciate the difference.
