Key takeaways

  • Victorian drivers can get 20% off their car registration by 31 July 2026.
  • The 20% rego rebate applies for light vehicles and motorcycles. And you can claim rebates on up to two vehicles.
  • What's next: You'll need to have a Service Victoria account and apply for the rebate online.

The Victorian government is offering a 20% rebate on car registration for the 2025–2026 financial year.

You have until 31 July this year to apply.

It took me less than five minutes to complete the process. I got $186 back off my registration.

How to apply for the rego rebate

To apply, you'll need a Victorian driver's licence and an Australian bank account, plus a Service Victoria account.

Then you just go to this site, scroll down to the "Get started" button and complete your application. You'll need your vehicle's number plate as well.

Once you've applied, the payment should come within 30 days, paid straight to your bank account.

Which vehicles are eligible?

You can apply for a rebate on cars, motorcycles, utes, vans and light trucks. And there's a limit of two vehicles per person, meaning you could save around $372 if you have two vehicles.

You can't claim a rego rebate on fleet vehicles or any vehicles registered to a private company, boats, club permit vehicles, trailers or caravans.

You can claim the rebate for rego you've paid in the 2025–2026 financial year. This means you can claim the rebate even if the car's been written off, as long as the registration is still current.

There may be other rebates or discounts you can claim

The Victorian government has a whole website where you can find out what government discounts and rebates you might be eligible for.

With the cost of living so high, every dollar counts.
