How to maximise your health insurance sign-up bonus in July

To cut through the noise and help you find where to get the most value, we modelled two of the most common scenarios: a single person taking out hospital-only cover and a 30-year-old locking in combined hospital and extras cover. Using Finder's own survey data on what Australians are actually paying for health insurance, here's how the current July deals compare in real dollar terms.

Profile 1: Single, hospital-only cover

DealWeeks free valueGift card / cashbackTotal estimated value
HBF via Finder6 weeks free (~$124)$200 digital Visa gift card~$324
Medibank6 weeks free (~$124)Up to $200 in Live Better gift cards~$324
AIA Health4 weeks premium cashback (~$83)~$83

Weeks free value based on Finder survey data (March 2026): average Basic hospital premium $90/month. Assumes single policy, hospital-only cover.

The verdict: For singles just taking out hospital cover, the $200 Finder gift card stacked with 6 weeks free adds up to around $324 in value. On paper, Medibank matches that figure for hospital-only cover, but there's a catch: Medibank's reward comes as Live Better points, which require you to track health activities in their app before you can redeem them. If you'd rather just pocket straightforward cash, HBF's digital Visa card is the simpler option.

Profile 2: 30-year-old, combined hospital & extras

DealWeeks free valueGift card / cashbackTotal estimated value
HBF via Finder14 weeks free (~$637)$500 digital Visa gift card~$1,137
Medibank12 weeks free (~$546)Up to $300 in Live Better gift cards~$846
see-u by HBF8 weeks free (~$364)Up to $400 in gift cards~$764
Bupa12 weeks free (~$546)~$546
nib10 weeks free (~$455)~$455
Australian Unity8 weeks free (~$364)~$364
GMHBA6 weeks free (~$273)~$273

Weeks free value based on Finder survey data (March 2026): average Bronze hospital premium $144/month + average extras premium $53/month = $197/month combined. Assumes single policy.

The verdict: When you add up the value of HBF's 14 weeks free and the $500 Finder gift card, a 30-year-old taking out combined hospital and extras cover in July is looking at over $1,100 in total value, making it one of the most generous health insurance deals currently on the market.
