Nothing Phone 3: Australian specs, release date and price

The Nothing 3 phone is now available to pre-order in Australia with a bonus pair of headphones worth $549.
The Nothing Phone might not be a household name in Australia, but it has been quietly impressing UK tech heads since the original launched in 2022.
With its transparent design and signature Glyph interface, the range is quite unlike any other phone on the market.
The latest model, dubbed the Nothing 3 is now available to pre-order in Australia, exclusively through Optus.
Here's what you need to know about the Nothing 3, including the specs, pricing and how to snag a free pair of $549 headphones.
Free headphones with pre-order
Optus is giving away a free pair of CMF by Nothing 1 Headphones valued at $549 when you pre-order the Nothing 3.
To get the deal, you need to pre-order the phone on an Optus Choice plan over 12, 24 or 36 months before August 3, 2025.
Monthly repayments cost $46.90 over 36 months, plus the price of your plan.
Here's the minimum you'll need to pay across each plan type.
Plan name | Minimum cost over 36 months | |
---|---|---|
$55 Small Choice Plus plan | $101.90 per month | |
$65 Medium Choice Plus plan | $111.90 per month | |
$85 Large Choice Plus plan | $131.90 per month |
The Nothing 1 Headphones come with a brace of premium features, including 40MM drivers with support for spatial audio, Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), lossless audio over USB-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack for old school users.
Speaking of "old school", the device takes its design cues from audio cassette tapes. No, really. It's certainly a unique look that we suspect will be polarising - much like the phone itself.
What is the Nothing phone?
The Nothing 3's main claim to fame is its Glyph Matrix interface. Located on the back of the phone, it's essentially a circular dot-matrix display that can be used to show the time, volume levels and battery status.
It can also run its own dedicated mini-apps such as a stopwatch, compass and a pixelated selfie mirror.
The phone's design is both minimalist and eye-catching - you can choose between black or white, with components remaining visible through a semi-translucent window.
It looks like an unfinished prototype fresh off the factory floor, which is entirely deliberate.
The phone runs on Android 15, layered with Nothing's custom skin called Nothing OS 3.5.
Here are the specs:
Feature | Nothing Phone 3 |
---|---|
Display | 6.67-inch AMOLED, 1.5K (2800×1260), 120Hz, 4,500 nits peak brightness |
Processor | Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 |
RAM & Storage | 12GB or 16GB RAM, 256GB or 512GB storage |
Rear Cameras | Triple 50MP (main, ultrawide, 3x telephoto) |
Front Camera | 50MP selfie camera |
Battery | 5,150mAh, 65W wired, 15W wireless charging |
Operating System | Android 15 with Nothing OS 3.5 |
Special Features | Glyph Matrix display, IP68 water resistance, 5 years OS updates |
Colours | Black, White |
These are very decent specs across the board. The 5,150mAh battery and 50-megapixel front facing camera are particularly impressive compared to what you normally get for a phone in this price range.
Nothing 3 release date
The Nothing 3 will be available to buy from July 15. You should receive your pre-order from Optus at around the same time, or slightly before.
Nothing 3 price
If you're planning to buy the Nothing 3 outright, buckle up: prices start at $1,509 for the 256GB model and blow out to $1,689 for the 512GB version.
This is a significant markup compared to the previous model which retailed for $1,049.
With that said, the 3 represents a significant leap over the Nothing Phone 2 which used LED strips for its Glyph interface and came with a less powerful battery, CPU and camera. So at least you can see where the extra money went, we suppose.
Nothing pre-order deals
Optus is slinging free audio gifts across its entire Nothing phone range, which includes the 3a, 3a Pro and 2 Pro.
The 3a and 3a Pro launched in Australia a few months ago and are essentially a stripped down version of the Nothing 3 with less powerful processors, cameras and batteries.
Here is Optus' offer for each phone.
Device | Free headphone | Monthly repayments (36 months) | |
---|---|---|---|
Nothing 3 | Nothing Headphone (1) (RRP: $549) | $46.90 | |
Nothing 3a Pro | Nothing Ear (a) (RRP: $169) | $23.58 | |
Nothing 3a | Nothing Ear (a) (RRP: $169) | $16.62 | |
Nothing 2 Pro | Nothing CMF Buds 2 (RRP: $89) | $12.46 |
To get your freebie, you need to purchase the phone on an eligible Optus Choice plan before August 3, 2025.
