felix launches a faster unlimited mobile data plan. Is it worth it?
felix mobile is shaking things up with a new unlimited mobile data plan for $50 a month.
felix is best known for its unlimited mobile data plan, with speeds capped at 40Mbps.
Now it's adding a faster option. The new Unlimited+ plan keeps the unlimited data, but doubles the speed cap to 80Mbps.
However, it's 5G-only, so you'll need a 5G-compatible handset to use it. If your phone only supports 4G, you won't be able to access the plan.

What do the speed caps on felix's unlimited mobile data plans mean?
felix's Unlimited plans don't have a data allowance, but you do have a speed cap.
So you can keep using data without worrying about running out, but your connection won't go above the plan's maximum speed.
On the 40Mbps plan, that's fast enough for everyday things like streaming, video calls, browsing and social media.
With the new 80Mbps cap, you're getting twice the speed, which you'll notice more with things like higher-quality streaming, tethering and big downloads.
"Combined with our commitment to planting a tree every month for every active service, Unlimited+ delivers on our promise of being good for the wallet and good for the planet," said a felix spokesperson.
So, is felix's new unlimited mobile data plan worth it?
First, felix is the only mobile provider in Australia offering close to a truly unlimited data plan.
Other providers have data allowances, but once you hit them, your speeds can be capped at anywhere from 256kbps to 2Mbps until your next billing cycle.
Right now, there's no launch offer on felix's Unlimited+ plan, so you'll pay $50 a month.
I'd be tempted to try felix's regular Unlimited plan first while it's discounted and see how you go with the 40Mbps speed cap. If that's fast enough for you, there may not be much reason to pay extra for Unlimited+.
And if you're not using heaps of data anyway, felix's data-capped plans could offer better value.
