It's just been over a year since Aussie Broadband launched Buddy Telco, its budget-friendly sub-brand. Now, it's handing over the reins to Tangerine.

Aussie Broadband launched Buddy Telco in August 2024 as a digital-first challenger brand, offering low NBN prices and a reliable connection.

Fast-forward to today, and Buddy Telco is set to be sold to Tangerine. If you're an existing customer, here's what you need to know.

I'm a Buddy Telco customer. What happens now?

There's nothing you need to do now or worry about, as no changes are taking place at the moment.

The transition won't occur until the second half of 2026, which is why the details are thin.

Now, before you freak out, there's some good news.

Along with Aussie Broadband announcing the sale of Buddy Telco, it said it was entering an exclusive 6-year agreement to provide wholesale NBN services to Tangerine and More.

This means Tangerine and More will use Aussie Broadband's network to deliver their internet service.

This is a big deal given Aussie Broadband's a customer favourite for service reliability, and why its budget-friendly sub-brand has already attracted 14,000 customers (as of June 2025).

This is exactly what More and Tangerine co-founder and CEO, Andrew Branson, alluded to in a media release.

We have chosen Aussie Broadband as our wholesale broadband partner for two very simple reasons: their strong partnering culture and a network that underpins the most trusted telco in Australia.

What do I need to know about Tangerine?

Similar to Buddy Telco, Tangerine launched as an affordable alternative to big-name brands and is known for offering 6-month juicy discounts.

Here's a quick rundown of what it offers:

  • It's backed by the Commonwealth Bank.
  • You can also bundle and save with its mobile and internet plans.
  • It offers multiple customer support options, including WhatsApp, phone, and live chat on its website.
  • Tangerine was highly commended in Finder's 2025 Broadband Customer Satisfaction Awards for both value and most recommended.

Now we don't know what it'll do once it acquires Buddy Telco, but at least you know where it stands as a brand.

What about new customers thinking of signing up to Buddy Telco?

Everything is going to stay the same for now, given that the transition won't take place for at least another year.

And as we mentioned, even after moving to Tangerine, you will still have access to Aussie Broadband's network.

What's unclear is if the pricing will stay the same, but there are no lock-in contracts on any of Buddy Telco's plans, so you should sign up if you want.

In fact, it's currently offering a great promotion with the first month free.
