Can I send money to Cuba?

Is there a way to send money to loved ones in Cuba?

Unfortunately, it's difficult to send money from Australia to Cuba. According to the Smartraveller.gov.au, there are limited options available. International money transfer services aren't available to Australians in Cuba and banks may not be able to transfer money to Cuba, especially those associated with US banks, like Westpac or Amex.

DFAT suggests a Cuban company, Assistur SA, which may be able to provide similar services, but users note that it can be slow and expensive. Others online recommend exploring sendvalu.com but it doesn't appear to support Australia.

Within Cuba, credit cards and debit cards are not accepted if they're issued by US banks or Australian banks affiliated with US banks. Some Visa and MasterCard cards don't work but this varies by bank. Also, traveller's cheques are not accepted.
