Zip launches ZMobile in Australia – here’s everything we know

Another mobile provider (of sorts) has thrown its hat in the ring to get Aussies connected, in partnership with TPG.
For those unfamiliar with Zip, it's essentially a digital financial services company that lets you buy things now and pay for them later in smaller, flexible instalments.
It now wants to give its customers something new: a range of mobile plans to choose from.
These plans will initially be available through the Zip app in a few weeks and will launch to the wider market later in the year.
ZMobile by Zip: What can I expect?
You'll get a range of prepaid mobile plans to choose from depending on your data needs and budget.
These will run on the TPG/Vodafone 4G and 5G networks.
We don't know any pricing information or what the data allowances will look like.
However, you should expect heavy introductory discounts as well as features such as:
- Data rollover. This will ensure your unused data doesn't go to waste. We don't know if there will be any caps on the limit or if we'll get unlimited data banking.
- Ability to enable global roaming and make international calls.
- The option to quickly sign up for an eSIM if you have a compatible handset.
The details are still vague, but we'll update you as soon as we learn more.
Here are some words from the Zip co-founder, in case you're wondering why it would launch mobile plans when there are already a gazillion and one available.
“With cost of living top of mind for every Australian, we are very excited to launch ZMobile, which delivers value without compromise,” said Peter Gray, Zip co-founder and head of strategic growth.
Mobile is how people manage life, work and money, and unlocking financial potential starts with everyday bills you can actually control. ZMobile is designed to offer highly competitive pricing and a seamless customer experience, with a simple four-click sign-up process.
It's similar in a way to CommBank and More's partnership. If you're an existing CommBank customer, you'll get a big discount on your mobile and internet plans for the long haul.
Don't want to wait around to get a better deal on your mobile plan?
Here are some prepaid mobile plan offers worth checking out.
For example, if you sign up to the Optus 186-day plan through Finder, you'll receive a $120 Visa gift card.
That brings your 6-month plan cost down to just $60.
