The best frequent flyer credit cards offer 100K Qantas or Velocity Points — for now

Key takeaways
- Right now, you can earn between 80,000 and 150,000 Qantas or Velocity Points with one of the best frequent flyer credit card offers.
- For some of these deals you need to be a new customer, or hold the card for over a year to get the full amount of bonus points.
- What's next: Some of these deals may change (for the worse) from 1 October once the credit card surcharge ban comes into effect.
1. NAB Rewards Signature Card – Velocity Points
The NAB Rewards Signature Card – Velocity Points is Finder's overall top-scoring frequent flyer credit card deal in August.
There's a total of 80,000 bonus Velocity Points up for grabs if you meet the spend criteria in the first three months (spend $5,000 in the first 90 days to get 60,000 points) and hold the card for over a year (20,000 points).
This card has a Finder Score of 9.9 off the back of this offer, plus a high earn rate of 1.5 points per dollar spent (up to $15,000 a month) and no foreign transaction fees. The annual fee is $420, which is on the high side but not outrageous.
2. Qantas American Express Ultimate
The Qantas American Express Ultimate comes in a close second this month, with a score of 9.8. This is undoubtedly the Qantas offer to beat for the average frequent flyer.
It offers up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Points, which is only for new American Express customers. You need to spend $5,000 in the first three months and then hold the card for over a year to get the full amount, but it's a very large points offer.
The earn rate is quite high at 1.25 Qantas Points per dollar spent, and the annual fee is $450. And that fee can be offset completely if you use the $450 annual travel credit.
3. Qantas Money Titanium
The Qantas Money Titanium credit card is the single biggest Qantas Points offer right now with 150,000 bonus points on the table if you spend $5,000 in the first 90 days.
You don't even have to wait a whole year to get all these points. And there's a high earn rate of 1.25 Qantas Points per dollar spent (capped at $12,500, and then 1 point per dollar after that).
This card comes laden with perks, like 20% bonus status credit and 2 Qantas First lounge passes.
But you pay for it. The annual fee is $1,200, by far the highest on this list.
4. Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer
Virgin Australia's Velocity High Flyer credit card is a really good deal right now. You can get 100,000 bonus Velocity Points if you meet the spend criteria (80,000 when you spend $3,500 in the first 90 days) and hold the card for over a year (20,000 points).
You can also earn 1 point per dollar, up to $8,000 per month, and you get a $129 Virgin Australia gift voucher. The annual fee is $329.
Unfortunately this is changing from 1 October. The annual fee jumps to a still-competitive $349.
But the earn rate falls to 0.75 Velocity Points per dollar spent, for the first $5,000 a month. After that it's 0.5 points per dollar.

5. Qantas Money Platinum
The Qantas Money Platinum has a Finder Score of 9.1 in the frequent flyer credit card category. It offers 80,000 bonus Qantas Points if you spend $5,000 in the first 90 days, and a further 40,000 points if you haven't earned any Qantas Points via a credit card in the last 24 months.
With this card you can earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent. The annual fee is $349 in the first year and $399 after that.
Details of these are correct at time of publication and subject to change.
