We've crunched the numbers: Here are the 5 best balance transfer credit cards on the market right now.

If you've got a Christmas credit card debt hangover, then a balance transfer credit card could help you get debt-free without punishing interest charges.

Here's how it works: you have one or more credit card balances that you're struggling to pay off. There are high interest charges plus annual card fees. You can move these balances to a new credit card with a balance transfer offer.

With the best balance transfer offers you'll get a year or sometimes 2 years with 0% interest charges on your unpaid balance. This gives you time to pay it off without interest piling up on top.

The key is to repay the debt on time. Because once the balance transfer period is over you get hit with high interest charges again.

1. ANZ Low Rate Credit Card

The ANZ Low Rate Card has a balance transfer Finder Score of 9.9.

This card is the only one on the market that gives you 26 months to pay off your balance with 0% interest. It's the best offer on the market.

There is a 3% balance transfer fee, which is on the higher side. But there's no annual fee in the first year.

2. Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard

The Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard has a Finder Score of 9.55.

This card gives you 0% for 24 months, which is just short of ANZ's 26 months. And the balance transfer fee is the same at 3%.

The card also has a $49 annual fee, which is low for an annual fee but worth factoring in when comparing cards.

3. Bankwest Breeze Platinum Mastercard

The Bankwest Breeze Platinum Mastercard has a Finder Score of 9.54.

This card has a similar deal to the Breeze Classic with 0% for 24 months and a 3% balance transfer fee.

The annual fee is slightly higher at $59, but you get some extra benefits like 0% foreign transaction fees and complimentary travel insurance.

4. Heritage Bank Gold Low Rate Credit Card

The Heritage Bank Gold Low Rate Credit Card has a Finder Score of 9.46.

While this card's balance transfer offer is much shorter at 12 months with 0% on your unpaid balance, there's no balance transfer fee and no annual fee each year.

So if you can repay your debt in 12 months this card lets you do it fee-free.

5. Community First Low Rate Credit Card

The Community First Low Rate Credit Card has a Finder Score of 9.44.

This credit card also offers 0% for 12 months with no balance transfer fee. The only difference is there is an annual fee of $50.

The Easy Street Low Rate Visa credit card has the same balance transfer offer and the same Finder Score.

Details of these cards are correct at time of publication and subject to change. All these cards were identified as the "best" cards using the Finder Score, a data-driven methodology that considers rates, fees and card features.
