NBN's Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred relief funding will go to eligible internet providers, allowing them to support those affected in NSW and Queensland.

NBN is working closely with providers to ensure that those whose internet services are impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred have the right support and the information they need for the next steps.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and we are committed to doing everything we can to support impacted communities by working with our RSPs to ensure assistance reaches those who need it," Anna Perrin, chief customer officer at NBN Co, said in a press release.

My NBN services were impacted. How can I apply for the cyclone relief payment?

The details are scarce since NBN only announced the $7 million cyclone relief funding on 11 March 2025.

However, if your internet services were impacted, NBN is encouraging those in NSW and QLD to contact their provider directly to check what support is available.

We've reached out to various internet providers for next steps and this is what we've heard so far.

"Optus welcomes the support provided by NBN Co through its Cyclone Relief Funding and is currently evaluating how best to extend this assistance to impacted customers. We will provide further details about the relief package as soon as it is available," an Optus spokesperson told Finder.

In similar vein, Telstra said, "We know this is a tough time for so many customers in south east Queensland and northern New South Wales, and we're working through the process to pass on this relief to customers."

"We're also providing our own disaster assistance package for affected customers, which can include automatic extra mobile data and free call diversions."

Optus and Vodafone, too, are offering bonus data to affected mobile customers. Check their websites to see if your plan is eligible and get updates on impacted mobile sites and service restoration timelines.

We'll keep you updated as we learn more about how internet providers will distribute NBN's $7 million cyclone relief funding to eligible customers.
