Global fintech, Finder, has today announced its status as a carbon-neutral business, the latest step in its commitment to climate action.

Finder assessed all emissions from its business operations globally as part of a new partnership with sustainability startup, Trace. Key contributors included emissions from its multiple offices around the world as well as the energy used to host the most visited comparison website in Australia.

In its most comprehensive carbon footprinting exercise to date, Finder also worked closely with its employees around the world to make sure emissions associated with their remote working were also included in the assessment.

As a result, Finder has offset 100% of its 1,133 tonnes of emissions for the year with carbon credits from 6 projects across Australia and globally, including planting 6,458 trees.

Ben King, head of CSR and public affairs at Finder, recognises this as an important step towards reaching net zero as a business.

"This is a big milestone for Finder and sets a new benchmark for our operational emissions."

"From here we're already looking at how we reduce our emissions and align these reductions with the latest climate science. Expect to see an ambitious net zero emissions reduction plan from the business in the near future"

Sustainable impact is a key pillar of Finder's expanding corporate social responsibility strategy and is only becoming a bigger focus for the fintech as the climate crisis continues.

The move to become carbon neutral compliments Finder's existing push towards a more sustainable Australia through such initiatives as the Finder Green Awards and the Finder Green hub. Both of which exist to highlight the businesses leading the way in sustainability and support consumers to go green with their money.

"We see our operational emissions as just one element of our broader sustainable impact plan," King said.

"Initiatives like the Finder Green Awards can have a huge impact too given that millions of people are using our services every day. If we can persuade just a small percentage of them to make greener decisions then the overall impact is huge."

Co-founded by ex-Finder crew member Joanna Auburn and her business partner Cat Long, Trace is a digital platform that supports businesses to measure, reduce, offset and track their carbon footprint over time.

Finder will continue to work with Trace to not only offset its emissions but also to look at areas of the business where emissions can be reduced or even eliminated.
