Key takeaways
- UniSuper crowned industry super fund of the year, AMP the retail super fund of the year.
- Aware Super nabs two wins, including high growth and low fees.
- 22% of Aussies are ignorant of what their superannuation is invested in.
Australia's top-performing superannuation funds have been revealed in Finder's Super Funds Awards 2026.
From Hostplus to Aware Super, the awards showcase the best super funds across a variety of investment categories, including balanced, conservative, moderate, high growth and low fees.
Finder research shows a whopping 22% of Aussies say they are ignorant of what their superannuation is invested in – a knowledge gap that could be costing members tens of thousands of dollars over a working life.
Richard Whitten, money expert at Finder, said Australians should make sure they're with the best fund and growth option for their stage of life.
"Your investment option is one of the biggest levers you have over your final retirement balance. Not knowing what you're invested in is like driving with your eyes closed.
"Most Aussies start with a balanced investment option by default, usually with a fund chosen by their first employer, and they never look at it again. However, younger people are typically better off in a high growth option.
"While riskier in the short term, a high growth fund on average gives you a higher return, which matters more when you're younger and are trying to grow your balance.
"Whether you're a young worker looking for a high-growth option or closer to retirement and needing something more conservative, the award winners are a great place to start."
Finder analysed nearly 500 investment options across 51 providers to reveal the top super funds in Australia.
Aware Super claimed two awards, winning Best High Growth Super Fund with its International Shares option and Best Low Fee Super Fund with its Australian Shares option.
Hostplus took out Best Balanced Super Fund with its Indexed Balanced option, while MLC won Best Conservative Super Fund with its MK Super Fundamentals Low Cost Conservative Balanced option.
UniSuper won Best Moderate Super Fund with its Australian Income option.
UniSuper was also crowned the Industry Super Fund of the year – an award that is based 50% on product data and 50% on customer satisfaction data.
AMP is this year's Retail Super Fund of the year.
Whitten said different funds excel in different areas.
"What this shows is that super funds are very much built for specific member types and you need to make sure you have the right fund for your stage of life and risk appetite."
