amaysim's refreshed its mobile plans, adding access to Optus's 5G network across all monthly offers, faster download speed caps and more.

This isn't surprising given that amaysim recently acquired Circles Life's Australian customer base, so updating its plans to keep them makes sense.

The biggest update is a new entry-level 5G plan - $25 for 15GB every 28 days.

That's a decent allowance for the average user and an upgrade from the old $22 for 10GB plan, which only offered 4G.

Here's a look at all of amaysim's prepaid plans before my expert take:

So, is the new entry-level 5G plan worth it?

The new plan is pretty good if you're after 5G access without spending too much. Just double-check that 15GB is enough based on your past usage.

You can easily sign up via an eSIM, get 5G download speeds up to 150Mbps (which is plenty) and access unlimited data banking.

There are only four other monthly plans in our database that offer 5G for $25 a month or less:

  • Southern Phone (Optus network): 20GB for $24 a month (100Mbps download speed cap on 5G). Currently $14 a month for the first 6 months through Finder only. Sign up here.
  • SpinTel (Optus network): 25GB for $22 a month (4G and 5G download speeds capped at 100Mbps). Currently $14 a month for the first 6 months.
  • Aussie Broadband (Optus network): 20GB for $25 a month (Download speeds capped at 100Mbps on 5G). No excess data charges.
  • felix (Vodafone network): 25GB for $25 a month (4G and 5G download speeds capped at 150Mbps). Currently $12.50 a month for the first 3 months. No excess data charges plus unlimited data banking. Sign up here.

What about the rest of amaysim's plans?

Here's what else has changed:

  • The 32GB and 80GB plans have had their download speed caps increased from 100Mbps to 150Mbps.
  • There's also a new 42GB plan.

amaysim's selling point is that you get access to a bunch of features such as international calls on most plans, unlimited data banking and the option to add a roaming pack.

Plus, now that it's selling NBN plans, you can bundle internet and mobile and save $10 a month on your NBN plan.

If 5G, bundling, or added extras don't matter to you, there may be better value elsewhere.
