Fuel Cards and Vouchers

Save time at the pump and manage your petrol budget with a fuel gift card.

What is a fuel gift card?

You can buy fuel gift cards online, in supermarkets and at most petrol stations, which you can use to pay for fuel and other services such as car washes, washer fluid and other maintenance costs. These cards and vouchers are suited to Australians who regularly purchase petrol and want to save time at the checkout. They can also come in handy if you want to manage your fuel budget separately from your credit or debit accounts. If you're looking for fuel charge cards, as opposed to gift cards or vouchers, check out our Fuel Cards Guide.

Where can I purchase a petrol gift card?

As convenient to buy as they are to use, fuel gift cards and vouchers can be purchased online, directly from the petrol station or even from the supermarket. If you have a preferred petrol provider or fuel network, you will want to confirm if it offers a gift card. That way you can ensure that the card you're using offers convenience and aligns with your regular spending behaviour. Before you apply, make sure you read the terms and conditions. For example, you should confirm where the card is accepted and if there are any expiry restrictions before you apply.

The value of the gift card will vary, but you can usually find gift cards that value between $5 to $500. These cards can often be reloaded, but remember to consider how much you or your recipient will need before you purchase the card.

Other types of fuel cards

If you're buying a fuel gift card or voucher for personal use, you might want to consider a credit card that earns points on fuel purchases instead. For example, the American Express Platinum Edge Credit Card awards up to 3 Membership Reward Points per $1 spent.

To manage business costs and take advantage of ongoing savings, you could also consider a fuel charge card rather than a gift card or voucher. Like a credit card designed for petrol purchases, you can use these cards to pay for fuel, manage your cash flow with a line of credit and track all of your corporate car costs under one account. Some cards also allow you to earn points as you spend and offer discounts per litre of fuel purchased.

Check out our guide to fuel cards to learn more about how these cards work and to compare your options.

Giving fuel cards and vouchers as presents

Whether you're buying a fuel gift card to congratulate a loved one with a new driver's licence or as a thank you to a friend for giving you a lift, a fuel voucher can be a practical and convenient gift. You can use the cards to pay for fuel as well as other petrol station costs, including snacks at the checkout. This frees up someone's credit card or debit account and saves them time at the pump.

      Hi Linda,

Thank you for contacting finder. We are a comparison website and general information service, we’re more than happy to offer general advice.

You may check your local fuel stations or supermarkets, or purchase a fuel card online. Many petrol retailers also offer gift cards and vouchers for purchase online. Simply visit your preferred company’s website and use the search bar (often located in the top right area of the site’s homepage) to look for “gift card”. The site should then direct you to the proper page displaying its gift card or voucher options. Once on the correct page, you can select the desired denomination for the gift card and can indicate which email you’d like it sent to. Note if there’s an expiry date attached to the card and, if there is, see if there’s an option to notify the recipient to remind them of this when the date draws near. If not, remember to keep that date in mind for personal use. After the email is received, the gift card or voucher can easily be printed and used at the selected petrol station.

      I hope this helps.

how do I find out if I have a 4cent a litre left on my rewards card.

      StephanieNovember 26, 2015Finder

      Hi Ron,

      Thanks for your question.

Please note that is a price comparison service and not a rewards card provider. To find out if you have this discount you will have to contact the rewards provider direct. Alternatively, if you have an online sign in with their program you might be able to see your current rewards by signing into your account.

      I hope this has helped,

my grandson lives in the newcastle area n.s.w. has his first car, which is the best fuel voucher to buy him.

      StephanieJune 15, 2015Finder

      Hi Patricia,

      Thanks for your question.

Probably the best way to determine which is the best fuel voucher for your grandson is to ask him where he usually drives and which petrol stations he tops up at. That way you can purchase a card for an outlet that he fuels up at often.

Another alternative is to get him a prepaid credit card which you can load with a certain dollar amount for him to use and then dispose at when the credit is used up.

      I hope this has helped,

which 24 hr outlets or service stations accept PayPal as a payment method (mobile app) in order to purchase cigarettes instore?? Or can I purchase a voucher via PayPal which can be used at a service station like BP or Shell etc in Melbourne?

      StephanieMay 21, 2015Finder

      Hi Aki,

      Thanks for your query.

At the moment, paying for your petrol or car services seems to be limited to the US and UK. However there is speculation that major petrol stations like Shell will be trialing this option soon – so keep an eye out.

Both Shell and BP accept certain fuel cards as payment (including Motorpass), however the purchase of these too seem to be limited to other methods including credit card or BPay.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
