Uber Comfort vs Uber Premier

What's the difference between Uber Premier and Uber Comfort?

Key takeaways

  • Uber Premier is the highest level of Uber available in Australia, with high-end vehicles that have strict requirements.
  • To become an Uber Premier driver or an Uber Comfort driver, you need to already be an UberX driver with a certain number of completed trips.
  • There are different vehicle requirements for Uber Premier and Uber Comfort that you need to know.

What makes Uber Comfort and Uber Premier different to UberX?

Uber customers who want more comfort for their journeys can book more high-end versions of the standard UberX.

Uber Comfort is similar to UberX but offers newer cars with more leg room.

Uber Premier is a premium Uber service, with more room in high-end cars driven by top drivers.

To become a driver of either of these services you must meet specific vehicle conditions and have completed at least 20 UberX journeys.

Let's take a look at both more in-depth.

What is Uber Premier?

Uber Premier is the highest level of Uber rideshare service that you can order. Because of that, Uber's requirements for the cars used for Premier rides are more stringent than other levels.

To become an Uber Premier driver you must be an existing Uber driver and your vehicle must:

  • Be no more than 7 years old
  • Be in excellent working condition with no cosmetic damage
  • Be a 4-door high end vehicle with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating
  • Be on the list of eligible vehicle models
  • Accommodate 4 people comfortably, not including the driver
  • Be registered as a commercial passenger vehicle
  • Have working windows and air conditioning
  • Be covered by CTP insurance

Driver-partner requirements:

  • Have completed at least 20 trips
  • Maintain a minimum rating of 4.6
  • Driver-partners must meet all UberX requirements

What is Uber Comfort?

This is another version of UberX where the vehicle provides a little extra room for passengers. Uber Comfort vehicles need to:

  • Be ANCAP 5-Star rated
  • Be no older than 7 years old
  • Be in excellent working condition with no cosmetic damage
  • Have 4 doors
  • Be on the list of eligible vehicle models
  • Seat 4‑7 passengers plus the driver
  • Have correct registration
  • Be registered and CTP‑insured in your State
  • Have working windows and air conditioning
  • Are able to pass a vehicle inspection

Driver-partner requirements:

  • Have completed at least 20 trips
  • Maintain a minimum rating of 4.85
  • Driver-partners must meet all UberX requirements

Our expert says

"If you don't own a vehicle that meets the requirements for Uber Comfort or Uber Premier, you have other options. There are companies that lease or rent out vehicles for Uber driving.

You can check out Finder's guide on rental cars for Uber in Australia. If this is the avenue you choose to take, just remember to weigh up the costs of how much the car costs to rent vs how much you expect to drive and earn."

Are Uber Comfort and Uber Premier worth it?

This depends on what you're after in a rideshare. Uber Comfort is designed to provide an extra bit of comfortability in your trips to and from where you need to go. This could work well for those of you coming back from the airport with extra luggage or just like to have room in the car.

Uber Premier is available for riders who want the luxury experience when riding with Uber. Here you'll be matched with the company's top drivers and cars will be of the highest standard cosmetically.

In the end, if UberX really isn't your cup of tea, then you'll get your dollars' worth out of Comfort and Premier. If you're after just a level up from the traditional UberX, then we recommend Uber Comfort for a touch of luxury without the massive price tag.
