Vodafone quietly raises prices: Is the hike bigger than Telstra and Optus?

Vodafone has increased the price of its mobile plans by $4 a month after running some aggressive promotions.
It's the season for price hikes - from internet and mobile to energy and insurance premiums.
Vodafone's also jumped on the bandwagon, increasing the cost of its postpaid mobile plans but offering more data in return.
Here's a look at the changes for new customers:
| Plan | Old price and data allowance | New price and data allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Small SIM-only plan | $49 for 50GB | $53 for 60GB |
| Medium SIM-only plan | $59 for 180GB | $63 for 200GB |
| Large SIM-only plan | $69 for 360GB | $73 for 400GB |
The price increases might seem jarring to some, given Vodafone has been running extended offers over the last few months.
For example, the $49 plan was discounted to $39 for the first 12 months, with 100GB per month for as long as you stayed on the plan.
Earlier this year, it raised prices for some existing customers to move them away from legacy plans.
"We are increasing the monthly plan fee for new customers...these changes enable us to continue investing in our network, security and technology to improve the services we offer customers," a Vodafone spokesperson told Finder.
"While we work hard to absorb the costs of these investments, we've had to make the difficult decision to adjust the price of some of our mobile plans."

How does Vodafone stack up against Optus and Telstra now?
Despite the price hikes, Vodafone still comes out the cheapest.
Optus has also raised prices for similar reasons to Vodafone, with its postpaid plans now starting at $55 a month for 50GB.
This is up from $49 for 30GB back in August 2024.
Telstra increased prices on 1 July 2025. Its plans now start at $70 a month for 50GB, which is noticeably higher than Vodafone and Optus.
However, it offers the widest network coverage in the country, which will matter to those living in some regional and rural parts of the country.
Apart from that, all three offer perks, so it really depends on what you're after. For example:
- Vodafone's $5-a-day roaming add-on, which lets you use your mobile plan overseas, is pretty great.
- Optus offers discounts on subscriptions through Optus SubHub.
- Telstra has a rewards program where you can earn points and redeem them for products.
Before deciding on any of the three, compare mobile plans from other providers too, as they may offer similar features, unless you're specifically looking for a phone included with your plan.
