Triple Velocity Points Gold Coast: How much can you earn?

Key takeaways
- Virgin trips to the Gold Coast earn triple the regular number of Velocity Points if you book as part of a new promotion.
- That means you could earn 2,000+ Velocity Points on a typical trip, which is a big increase.
- Credit cards which earn Velocity Points will earn even more.
Planning a trip to the Goldie? Make it even sweeter by earning more points from your flight.
Virgin is currently running a promotion where flights to or from the Gold Coast earn triple Velocity Points.
After activating the offer online, you need to book flights by 23 October 2025, and take them by 28 August 2026.

That sounds appealing, but how many Velocity Points would you actually earn?
Velocity Points earning is fiddly. As a base, you'll earn 4 times the cost of your ticket. If you have a credit card that directly earns Velocity Points and use that to pay for your trip, you get 5 times the cost of your ticket. (Silver, Gold and Platinum members earn additional Velocity Points based on their status, but those won't be tripled in the offer, so we'll ignore them for now.)

Let's see how all that pans out for economy flights to the Gold Coast from major capital cities, looking at typical flight prices in January 2026 (school holidays ahoy!) and with Choice fares. (Yes, you could get cheaper, but that's a representative example).
| Route | Price | Normal | With promo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney-Gold Coast | $163.00 | 652 | 1956 |
| Melbourne-Gold Coast | $246.00 | 984 | 2952 |
| Adelaide-Gold Coast | $288.00 | 1152 | 3456 |
I'm not going to sneeze at almost 2,000 Velocity Points for a short-haul domestic flight. That's worth around $40 if I redeem it for flights, based on current points valuations.
And it looks even better if you're paying with the right credit card:
| Route | Price | Normal | With promo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney-Gold Coast | $163.00 | 815 | 2445 |
| Melbourne-Gold Coast | $246.00 | 1230 | 3690 |
| Adelaide-Gold Coast | $288.00 | 1440 | 4320 |
You can redeem the offer multiple times, if you're a Coolangatta addict. Note that return flights only get counted for one leg, so you'd be better off booking separate one-way trips if you want to maximise points.
Am I tempted? Slightly. But following my own rule of never booking purely for the points, I'll be doing some shopping around first.
