End of financial year deals are helping thousands of cash-strapped Aussies unlock perks and discounts on health insurance, according to new research by Finder.

A Finder survey of 547 respondents with health insurance revealed more than half (52%) would be willing to switch providers for an appealing sign-up deal.

Almost 1 in 3 (31%) said it would take a 12-week free offer to make them switch, while 1 in 5 (19%) are tempted by gift cards and cash-back.

Bonus frequent flyer points (17%), minimal to no waiting periods (15%), and 6-weeks free cover (9%) rounded out the top 5 perks Aussies would switch health insurance cover for.

Tim Bennett, insurance expert at Finder, said Aussies want to be rewarded for switching.

"The perks insurers are investing in to attract new members have really ramped up.

"People are feeling the squeeze, so if they're going to switch providers, they want to know they're getting bang for their buck."

Bennett said incentives from gift cards to frequent flyer points are high on Aussie's wish list when it comes to finding a new policy.

"Perks like gift cards or frequent flyer points feel like a win — they give people a sense of immediate reward for what's usually a pretty dull purchase.

"For many Australians, health insurance feels like an unwelcome expense, so if a sign-up bonus adds some tangible value upfront, it can tip the scales and make switching feel worth it."

Bennett said end-of-financial-year deals on health insurance are here.

"The end of the financial year is the perfect time to reassess your health insurance — if a provider wants your business, make them earn it."
