9 health insurance benefits you might not expect

Today, we're taking a look at some of the perks that ahm offers to members.
1. No provider network
Many insurers have a preferred provider network, which can lock you into using specific healthcare providers to get the most back on your extras cover from your insurer.
But as an ahm member, you will get the same benefits back for included services at most recognised providers.1 So if you have a favourite physio or chiro, good news - you can keep seeing the providers you love.
2. Preventive tests, scans and screenings
ahm members with eligible extras cover can also claim benefits towards a range of Health Improvement Benefits (and we'll talk about some more of them in a moment), provided waiting periods have been served and annual limits have not been reached.
These included tests, scans and screenings are geared at spotting potential risks and taking appropriate steps before they become larger issues.
Depending on your level of cover, these can include Doctor's Health Checks and Heart Health Checks, and MRIs when a Medicare benefit is not payable.2
3. Cancer Council benefits
If you're an ahm member and have Health Improvement Benefits on your extras cover, you can actually claim a benefit on select Cancer Council-approved UV sun protection gear. This includes sunscreen, rashies, boardies, hats and sunglasses.3 Waiting periods and annual limits apply.
Just make sure you hang onto your receipt - you'll need it to demonstrate that the product is Cancer Council-approved.
4. Custom-made mouthguard
If you're a contact sports fan, you know how important it is to protect your teeth!
That's why ahm members with eligible extras cover can claim benefits towards custom-made mouthguards.4 Waiting periods and annual limits apply.
Ideal for protecting kids who are keen on sports and adult weekend warriors alike, it's an extra way to look after yourself on the field.
5. National Pickleball League perks
Part of keeping yourself healthy is keeping active.
And if you're an eligible ahm health insurance member, you can score yourself a free 6-month membership to the National Pickleball League.5

7. H&R Block tax return discounts
Tax time can be stressful but with ahm, you can reduce the stress and save some cash, too.
How? Well, ahm members can score a 10% discount on an individual tax return with H&R Block until 30 June 2027.7
8. Stress management courses
Certain types of extras cover with ahm allow you to claim benefits for certain courses related to stress management, through Health Improvement Benefits.8 Waiting periods and annual limits apply.
These courses must be carried out by an ahm-approved psychologist and can provide useful tools for managing stress in the moment.
9. Dietitian and nutrition consultations
We've all heard that food is fuel and know how important diet is to your overall health.
So if you have eligible extras cover, ahm can pay towards the costs of going to dietitians and nutritionists to help you get your eating (and health journey) on track.9 Waiting periods and annual limits apply.
