The best air conditioner brand in 2026? Real owners just voted.
If you've ever argued with a sibling about which air conditioner brand is actually the best, 2026 Customer Satisfaction Awards just settled the debate, at least for this year.
Rather than going on marketing copy or spec sheets, we asked real air conditioner owners across Australia to rate the unit they use every day: how much they love it, how reliable it's been, how easy it is to use and clean, and whether it's worth the money, across four formats: split system, general air conditioner, portable and ducted. Four brands topped their formats, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Arlec and Daikin, though none had things entirely their own way.
Split system air conditioners: Mitsubishi Electric swept four of seven categories.
Split systems are the most common format in Australian homes, so this was always the most hotly contested category, and Mitsubishi Electric handled it with ease. The brand won Most Loved, Most Reliable, Easiest to Use and Top Performance, then topped that off with Highly Commended results in the remaining three categories, placing in all seven awards on offer. Still, it wasn't untouchable: LG pipped it for Top Value, Hisense took Easiest to Clean, and Panasonic claimed Most Recommended.

Air conditioners: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries won six of seven categories.
If that sounds dominant, wait until you see the general air conditioner category. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries swept almost the entire board, taking six of a possible seven awards: Most Loved, Top Value, Most Reliable, Easiest to Use, Top Performance and Most Recommended, losing only Easiest to Clean to Hisense. Hisense clearly gave it the biggest run for its money, backing that win up with four Highly Commended results elsewhere, the most consistent runner-up in the field.

Portable air conditioners: a much tighter field led by Arlec and Devanti.
Portable units told a very different story: rather than one brand running away with everything, this turned into a genuine two-horse race, with a third name sneaking in to spoil the party. Arlec was busiest on the podium, taking Top Value, Easiest to Clean, Easiest to Use and Top Performance. Devanti answered with Most Reliable and Most Recommended, and was also the most well-rounded name on the list, landing a Highly Commended result everywhere it didn't outright win. That leaves Most Loved, which went to neither frontrunner: Teco snuck in to take the one award that got away from both.

Ducted air conditioners: Daikin took out four of seven categories.
Ducted systems tend to be the biggest investment here, since they're built into the house rather than plugged in, so owners clearly have strong opinions about which brands deliver. Daikin came out on top overall, taking Top Performance, Most Reliable, Top Value and Most Recommended, and like Mitsubishi Electric, backed those wins up with Highly Commended placings across the rest, featuring in all seven awards. The remaining wins were shared around: Braemar took Most Loved, Fujitsu claimed Easiest to Use, and ActronAir picked up Easiest to Clean.
With spring underway and summer heat not far off, this is about the time many households start wondering whether their air conditioner will survive another season, so the timing couldn't be better.

How we rank the best air conditioners
Finder's Customer Satisfaction Awards are based on real feedback from Australian consumers, not marketing spin. As part of a broader survey of more than 60,000 Australians about their recent purchases and brand experiences, we asked air conditioner owners to rate the brand they use on how much they love it, how reliable it is, how easy it is to use and clean, and how it performs for the price, across split system, general, portable and ducted formats.
Respondents could only vote on brands they've actually purchased and used. Each brand's score out of 5 is the average rating it received across these measures, with the highest-scoring brand in a category named the Winner and the next-highest scorers named Highly Commended.
