We all have different habits when it comes to using the Internet. Some of us might just stream movies and check socials while others might work from home and have a major gaming hobby.

That's why it's pretty much impossible to recommend an Internet plan that's perfect for everyone. Instead, it makes more sense to focus on ways to get better value for your money, no matter which type of Internet user you are.

👋 Hey there! Finder has partnered with CommBank to bring you this article. CommBank partly owns and currently has a partnership with More so we've used More as our example here. You should always compare your options to see what's best for you though.

Track your usage

Do you know how much data you're generally using in a day? What speeds do you need to comfortably use the Internet in a way that works for you? How many devices are typically connected to your home Internet at any one time?

Understanding how your household uses the Internet will give you the knowledge you need to pick the perfect plan for your unique requirements. Without it, you may find yourself with a cheap plan that just doesn't cut it or, on the other hand, you might end up overspending on a plan you don't need.

Compare plans

Once you understand your usage, it's time to compare plans. Don't just stick with the provider your best mate recommended or the one with the best ad on TV.

Do your own research, compare your options online and you just might find a better value plan. We've even got a guide to help you compare plans properly.

Speaking of which, make sure you're looking beyond just price. Yes, the cheapest plan on the market might save you some money but it's only good value if it meets your needs.

Look for discounts

While you're looking for plans, it's worth keeping your eyes peeled for any promotional offers, discounts or bundles. These can often reduce your overall bill by a significant amount.

For example, CommBank customers can currently take advantage of a 30% discount on More NBN plans. That means if you were to opt for More's XL Speedboost NBN package, your monthly cost would come down from $77 to $53.90. That's for an unlimited data plan with typical evening speeds of up to 50Mbps.

Talk to an expert

If you are confused about choosing a plan or having trouble finding one that really suits your needs, consider chatting to an expert about your specific situation and what you're looking for.

The plan you have in mind might be far more than what you actually need – or not enough. They might be able to steer you in the direction of a more appropriate plan that will be better value overall.

Revisit your plan

Your Internet shouldn't be a set and forget thing. Okay, you're not going to be switching every few months, but checking for new and better value plans every year is a good idea. You never know what else is out there.

Plus, in some cases, you might not even have to switch. If you do come across a better value plan, try asking your provider to match it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease after all.
