But with the right internet plan, you can get so much more.

For example, Telstra offers a range of additional benefits. So we're taking a look at some of the key questions to ask if you've been thinking about Telstra -- and provide the answers, too.

1. Can Telstra offer a range of internet connectivity options?

When you're working out which internet plan is right for you, it's important to think about how you'll use the internet, and what technology is available at your address.

Telstra offers a range of different technology types to get you connected, spanning nbn®, 5G Internet, Opticomm and Satellite.

With all these different tech options under one roof, it makes it easy to find the right internet plan for your home.

Additionally, Telstra offers a range of plans to suit different online needs.

For example, you might have a big family with lots of online devices attached to the network.

Or maybe you just have a range of data-intensive activities you need to get sorted – working from home with lots of video calls, or needing to livestream your current game.

Telstra's internet plans are also flexible, so you can see if it's a good fit for your needs. You can check your address on the Telstra website to see what sort of plans are available in your area.

2. Can I get a reliable connection with Telstra?

To enhance your internet experience, some Telstra plans also include the Telstra Smart Modem 4 (TSM 4) for use.

The TSM 4 is Telstra's latest pre-configured, plug-and-play modem. It can be set up in minutes, and offers a range of features:

  • Next-gen Wi-Fi 7 technology for Wi-Fi 7 devices
  • Security and parental controls to help keep everyone safe online
  • 2GB RAM to easily handle over 250 devices
  • Automated software updates
  • Control in your hands with My Telstra app features including speed tests, modem restarts and service health checks

You're also able to extend your Wi-Fi coverage within your home with a Telstra Smart Wi-Fi Booster Gen 3, with a compatible modem. And if anything goes wrong, you've also got access to local support.

Additionally, if your internet service does drop out, the TSM 4 with an eligible plan (and mobile coverage available) will switch over to the Telstra mobile network to help keep you connected. Speeds are capped at 25/5 Mbps, except on Telstra Business Internet plans (which are uncapped and unshaped), but actual speeds may be lower.

Having this sort of backup can be the difference between a minor inconvenience and a lost workday.

For plans with modem for use: If you cancel, change tech type or to an Internet Only plan, within 24 months, simply return your modem or pay a $200 non-return fee.


3. Do Telstra plans include troubleshooting features?

Select Telstra plans include SmartFix, a troubleshooting AI agent that proactively detects and can help to resolve a range of online issues.

For example, if there's a connectivity issue, SmartFix can work in the background to resolve it. If it's able to resolve the issue, you may not even notice that you've been offline. SmartFix is available on eligible plans.

During FY2025, SmartFix took action on around 2.5 million issues across the Telstra customer network.

However, if it's a more serious issue, SmartFix will contact you with the appropriate steps to take via SMS, which may include help from a service technician if necessary.


4. How does Telstra help keep me safe online?

In 2026, going online also means being at risk of cyber threats. But Telstra can help you with avoiding them!

Telstra blocks millions of cyber threats every day, and monitors their network 24/7 to help protect against suspicious activity.

Although it's important to take steps to keep yourself safe while you're on the internet, Telstra works at a network level to help protect its customers.


5. Can I be rewarded for a Telstra plan?

Yes! As an eligible Telstra customer, you can also get access to the Telstra Plus program.

Telstra Plus is free to join. Once you're in, you can start earning points, which can be used for discounts on your bill or redeemed for digital gift cards and retailer discounts.

As a Telstra Plus member, you can also get early access to ticket pre-sales for major events and discounted movie tickets. Plus, there are also exclusive competitions!

Telstra Plus - the essentials

Telstra Plus is a rewards program that lets Telstra customers earn points when they spend on eligible Telstra products and services. Joining is easy, you simply need to:

  • Be over 18
  • Have an active Telstra business or personal service. This can be a post-paid mobile plan, a pre-paid mobile plan, a mobile broadband plan, or an internet plan
  • Have, or register for a Telstra ID

Once you've earned enough points, you're able to redeem them for a range of rewards, including:

  • Bill discounts
    • Eligibility criteria and minimum points apply to redeem monthly discounts. Monthly discount ends early if you cancel or change your service unless the change is within the same plan family. Learn more.
