Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Vs S25 Ultra: Which phone is better?

Samsung has launched a new-look, ultra-slim version of the Galaxy S25 phone. Here's how it stacks up against the S25 Ultra.
Samsung has put the Galaxy S25 on an extreme diet. The new-and-improved "Edge" model is drastically slimmer than its predecessors, measuring just 5.8mm and weighing under 165g.
To put that into perspective, here's the new phone compares to the previous model:
If the S25 Edge was a person, it would be one of those fitness influencers who post "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" without a hint of irony. In short, it's one of the slimmest phones we've ever seen.
Despite its diminutive dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge remains highly durable courtesy of its titanic frame and Corning Gorilla Glass - including an ultra-tough layer of Victus 2 on the back.
Samsung has also added a beefier 200MP wide-angle camera compared to the 50MP sensor found on its predecessor.
However, it's worth noting that this isn't Samsung's first rodeo when it comes to Galaxy S25 upgrades. There's also the Galaxy S25 Ultra to consider.

As you can see, the guts powering both phones are remarkably similar - the processor, RAM and artificial-intelligence software are all identical.
Peek a little deeper however, and some pretty big differences emerge.
Design
The Edge's chief selling point is definitely its redesigned chassis. It is noticeably lighter and slimmer than just about any other flagship phone on the market.
As mentioned above, it weighs a barely-there 163g which is less than a large bag of crisps.
By contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is unashamedly a big boi. It weighs in at 218g and measures a hefty 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2mm.
On the plus side, it does have a larger 6.9-inch display, compared to 6.7 inches on the Edge. That works out to around half a centimetre of extra screen real estate.
Nevertheless, when it comes to looks the Edge wins the contest hands down. It's sleeker, sexier and easier to fit in your pocket.
Cameras
The Ultra comes with a superior 200MP ultra-wide camera (compared to 12MP on the Edge) and an additional 50.0/10.0 MP telephoto lens. You also get a 5x optical zoom, compared to 2x optical on the Edge.
The inclusion of a telephoto lens, a more powerful 50MP sensor and a higher optical zoom opens up a lot more possibilities when it comes to photography. (Check out our test photos using the Ultra.)
If you are all about taking photos on your phone, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is the clear winner.
Battery
The Ultra comes with a larger 5000mAh battery that promises up to 31 hours of continuous video playback. This is around 7 hours more than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge which makes do with a 3900mAh battery.
If you're a power user (or just hate charging your phone), the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has the edge.
Price
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has a starting price of $1,849. That's signficantly cheaper than the Ultra, which is selling for $2,149 at the Samsung Store.
However, as we noted in our Pixel 9a vs Pixel 9 breakdown, it's not too difficult to find the slightly older model at a discounted rate.
For example, you can currently grab the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra from Kogan for $1,764. That's actually cheaper than the lower-specced Edge.
On RRP, the Edge is a better buy. But for canny shoppers, the Ultra wins this category. (Just make sure you are buying a new phone and not a refurbished one.)
With that said, Samsung is currently offering some solid pre-order deals that boost the Edge's value considerably.
