There’s $21 billion in unclaimed superannuation and some could be yours

Millions of Aussies are missing superannuation money, here's how to easily check if you're one of them.
You might be suprised to find that there is some cash with your name on it sitting in an unclaimed superannuation account.
If you've ever changed jobs or changed your name, you could be missing superannuation money.
There is currently $21 billion worth of unclaimed super cash sitting in forgotten super fund accounts.
This is spread across around 7.3 million different accounts.
Given how many accounts there are with unclaimed money - there's actually a decent chance that some could be yours.
The average lost super amout is just under $3,000.
But it could be much higher than this, with the ATO recently returning a huge $500,000 worth of superannuation money to someone in QLD.

How to check for lost super money
Checking for lost super takes less than 5 minutes, and is completely free to do.
You have nothing to lose by checking, and a LOT to potentially gain.
- Go to myGov. Log on to your myGov account online.
- Click on ATO. Once you've logged in, go to the ATO online services section.
- View super. Here you'll be able to see all your current super accounts tied to your name and tax file number, including any accounts that are 'unclaimed' and sitting with the ATO.
If you do find you've got some super sitting in an ATO-held account, you can transfer it over into your current super account with the click of a button.
While you're in there it's a good opportunity to check how many super accounts you have open in your name, and consolidate them if you've got more than one.
