Each week we give our members a dose of money smarts with some Finder stats or insights in our weekly Money Smarts newsletter (sign up if you haven't already!)

This week's Finder Figure is: 67%

We asked our Finder members to choose what this number represents:

  • A. The percentage of Aussies who've paid a parking fine in 2026?
  • B. Those who've called in sick when they weren't actually sick?
  • C. How many Gen Zs received financial help from the fam to buy a home?

And the answer is:

C

Our 2026 Finder Home Loans Report also found:

  • 19% of Gen Z say they feel societal pressure to buy a home (the highest of any generation)
  • 44% of homeowners either expect to still be paying, or already are paying, their mortgage in retirement
  • 55% of mortgage holders spend more than 30% of their take-home pay on repayments, which the traditional mortgage-stress threshold

If these mortgage stress stats resonate with you, there might be something you can do about it.

You could talk to your lender about getting a cheaper interest rate or getting a fee waiver to take some pressure off.

You could switch to a different bank by refinancing – you might even be able to get a lower interest rate and some cash back.

And you can also look for ways to save money in other areas of your budget. As a Finder member, you get access to discounts and gift card rewards you can't find anywhere else, including Finder Rewards.
