Moviegoing has seen a big boost this month with blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer drawing huge crowds. Keen for a night at the movies but not so keen on the cost? There are a few ways to get cheaper tickets.
One recent example: cinema chain Hoyts has just partnered with ticketing chain Ticketek for "Ticketek Tuesdays", offering $13 tickets to screenings on Tuesdays.
Hoyts' standard price for an adult ticket is $25.50, so that's a decent saving, even after paying the somewhat ridiculous $1.65 "online booking fee".
To score the cheaper tickets, you just need to have a Ticketek account. (If you've ever bought a concert ticket, chances are you've already got one). Sign in and then hit the Offers link under 'My Account' to book discounted tickets.

Don't have a Hoyts nearby? There are other ways to score cheaper cinema tickets too. Here are a few of my favourites:
- State motoring associations (e.g.: NRMA or RACV) often have discounted ticket offers for members.
- If you're a union member, check if cinema discounts are one of the extra benefits.
- Several times a year, supermarket chains offer bonus points when buying cinema gift cards. 2000 points equals $10 off at both Coles and Woolworths, so if you buy a gift card, you're effectively reducing the price.
