Digital Surge only charges 0.5% to buy and sell cryptocurrencies instantly, with an average spread of less than ~0.4%, making them one of the best value exchanges in Australia.
Digital Surge has resumed trading
On 21 February 2023, Digital Surge announced it had resumed trading after its stakeholders approved a recovery plan intended to repay impacted customers over a 5-year period. Deposits, withdrawals and trading have been fully reinstated.
The platform commenced a voluntary administration process in December 2022 after FTX filed for bankruptcy.

Here's how our expert analysts assessed the Australian cryptocurrency exchange (overall) to pick the 2022 winner.
Selection criteria
We conducted an extensive market review of the Australian cryptocurrency exchange market and contacted 33 cryptocurrency exchanges in September 2021 to participate in the awards program. Any exchange that didn't complete the information form was not included in the final analysis.
All exchanges included were required to be registered with the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) to be considered for an award.
The award for 'Australian cryptocurrency exchange (overall)' was given to the business that had the highest average score across the 5 following categories, each contributing 20% of the score for the overall winner:

- Exchange for value
- Exchange for features
- Exchange for altcoins
- Exchange for trading
