Role Overview

We're looking for an Insights Analyst who lives in the data. You aren't just running numbers; you're a research operator and storyteller who can turn raw data into insights that move markets, make headlines, and shape better money decisions.

You'll run Finder's research and insights projects — designing studies, interrogating financial product data, and translating findings into reports, PR-worthy stories, and recommendations the business can act on. You'll partner closely with our PR, editorial, marketing, Awards and product teams to help millions of Australians make better money decisions daily.

Main Responsibilities

    Research Design & Storytelling

  • Run the Studies: Design and execute consumer surveys, product studies, and market analyses that stand up to media scrutiny and stakeholder pressure-testing.
  • Find the Headline: Spot the angle in every dataset. Where others see numbers, you see a story the editorial and PR teams can run with the same day.
  • Build Authority: Help make Finder the most quoted source for Australian money insights — credible, original, and fast.
  • Brand Voice in Numbers: Bring Finder's tone to insights work — sharp, useful, and never boring.
  • Analysis & Insight Generation

  • Crunch the Numbers: Run advanced analysis in Excel and Google Sheets — pivot tables, custom and nested formulas, and financial modelling (loan, repayment, P&L, savings, interest scenarios).
  • Product Analytics: Work with our product data lead on the analytics behind the market-leading annual Finder Awards — refining and writing up methodologies, gathering data, liaising with stakeholders, and standing behind every winner.
  • Market Monitoring: Own and continuously improve Finder's suite of market-monitoring spreadsheets — tracking rates, fees, and product changes across the financial landscape.
  • Data Gathering: Source data from regulators (RBA, APRA, ABS), banking sites, and proprietary tools. Know where the truth lives and how to get to it quickly.
  • Sweat Every Dataset: Repurpose hero research into briefs, decks, charts, and editorial-ready tables across every team that needs it.
  • Stakeholder Partnerships & Communication

  • Be the Translator: Convert findings into stories, briefs, and recommendations that PR, editorial, marketing, Awards and product teams can actually use.
  • Editorial & PR Partnership: Brief journalists and writers with insights worth reading, and help shape pitches that earn coverage in tier-one Australian media.
  • Communicate Under Pressure: Write clear, consistent reports and present confidently to stakeholders at every level — including external partners and media.
  • Protect the Brand: Spot data risks early, escalate calmly, and never let a number out the door you can't defend.
  • Quality & Process

  • Quality Control: Champion data integrity. Review work for errors before it goes anywhere near a stakeholder, journalist, or customer.
  • Contribute to Playbooks: Help turn one-off projects into repeatable processes. Document methodologies as you go so the team can move faster every quarter.

Essential Requirements

    Experience

  • 3-5 years in a research, insights, market analysis, or analytics role at a brand, publisher, agency, consultancy, or financial services business.
  • Track record of running research projects end-to-end — from question to methodology to publication.
  • Experience working alongside editorial, PR, or marketing teams to turn data into stories, headlines, or campaigns.
  • Comfort with the full insights stack: spreadsheets, survey platforms, analytics dashboards, and at least one statistical or BI tool.
  • Craft

  • Spreadsheets: Advanced Excel and Google Sheets — pivot tables, custom and nested formulas, financial formulas (loan, repayment, P&L), and visually polished charts that tell a story at a glance.
  • Analysis: Confident running survey analysis, trend identification, and financial modelling. You can read a dataset, find the story, and adjust the plan.
  • Writing: You can write a report, an exec summary, and a media-ready stat that all sound like the same brand.
  • Visualisation: Charts and decks that look credible and on-brand. Bonus for Tableau, Power BI, Looker Studio, or similar.
  • AI & Automation: Fluent with Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT — you use them to accelerate analysis, draft reports, and automate the repetitive bits of research. Curious about agentic workflows and workspace automation, and not afraid to build them.
  • Bonus: Excel VBA, SQL, or basic Python/R for deeper analytical work. Hands-on experience with workspace automation (Claude Code, Zapier, n8n and MCP-based tools) is a strong plus.
  • Soft Skills

  • Can manage multiple stakeholders, prioritise a chaotic research calendar, and communicate clearly under pressure.
  • Strong taste — you know what looks credible, what feels original, and what will get cut by an editor.
  • Traits We Look For

  • Audience-Obsessed: You care about what Australians actually need to know about their money, not just what's easy to measure.
  • High Standards: You hate typos, broken charts, and shaky methodology. You hold your work to a high bar.
  • Rigorously Curious: You don't just run the numbers — you understand why they move and why they sometimes mislead.
  • Driven by Impact: You check the numbers because you care about results — coverage, decisions made, products improved — not vanity.

Perks/Benefits

  • 5 days of additional 'Life Leave' each year to use for life's big moments
  • Free daily lunch - in office
  • Generous gender - neutral parental leave (up to 16 weeks in Australia)
