Modern Family is leaving Foxtel and BINGE for Disney Plus
The beloved family sitcom will have a new streaming home starting September.
If you're in the middle of an epic Modern Family streaming marathon, you might want to hurry up. The sitcom expires from Foxtel and BINGE at the end of August 2022, so you only have a few more days to see how the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan's journey ends on those streaming services.
Don't think you'll manage to finish your binge in time? After all, Modern Family has 11 lengthy seasons. There's no need to worry since the show won't be gone from streaming services for long. In fact, it arrives on Disney Plus in early September.
Where to stream Modern Family online in Australia
Starting September, Modern Family relocates to stream on Disney Plus. It drops on the service on 8 September, which happens to be Disney Plus Day. Subscriptions to Disney Plus cost $11.99 a month or $119.99 annually. The platform doesn't offer a free trial, but you can cancel anytime.

Disney Plus Day is a global celebration that marks the release of new content on Disney Plus, along with special promotions and other exciting events for Disney fans. Why is Modern Family moving to Disney Plus in Australia?
Modern Family aired on ABC in the US and was made by 20th Century Television, both of which are owned by Disney. You might have noticed that other popular ongoing ABC series are streaming on Disney Plus in Australia, such as Grey's Anatomy, Abbott Elementary or The Wonder Years. The same applies for shows that have concluded – Scandal, Alias, Castle, Once Upon a Time, Scrubs and so on.
Due to licensing deals, not all ABC or 20th Century Television shows are on Disney Plus. For example, The Good Doctor is on Netflix, Prime Video and 7Plus in Australia. That used to be the case for Modern Family, which you could stream on Foxtel or BINGE. We're assuming the licensing deal expired, which is why the sitcom relocates to Disney Plus.
Competition grows fiercer in the streaming market each day. It's natural for companies to want to retain the rights to their popular content and offer a more appealing content library. That's why you no longer find that many licensed shows and movies on Netflix, for example. The bulk of the platform's library now consists of original productions.
What is Modern Family about?
Modern Family premiered in 2009 and follows 3 diverse families from Los Angeles, all related. It ran for 11 seasons until the finale in 2020 and was always a ratings and streaming success.
The comedy received multiple Emmy Awards over the course of its run, including for Outstanding Comedy Series in each of its first 5 years on the air. If you're in the mood for a funny and uplifting binge, it's the perfect choice.
