Netflix goes in for superheroes and original content, while Stan gets mysterious with Sherlock and Presto flies off into the sunset.

January is the last month any Presto subscriber will be able to access Foxtel’s streaming service. Foxtel is offering a promotional discount if you were a Presto subscriber and wish to switch over to recently price-reduced Foxtel Play (recently rebranded as Foxtel Now) service.

That leaves Netflix and Stan to joust for streaming supremacy in 2017, alongside the smaller launch content library of Amazon Prime Video available in Australia.

What’s new on Netflix January 2017?

Netflix is serving up a mix of Hollywood blockbusters and its own originals content in January to keep us happy over the long hot Australian summer.

If superheroes are your thing, you can kick back and relax with Captain America: Civil War towards the end of the month:

If you're more DC than Marvel, then there's Superman V Batman: Dawn Of Justice to watch:

If Netflix’s binge-worthy originals are more your style, try Netflix’s take on Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events:

And we can’t let the fact that Netflix has picked up the Archie-by-way-of-the-OC series Riverdale pass by either:
