Summer trends of 2015 with Amber Hodgman
We’ve seen it all over the runway and now it’s in every fashion girl's wishlist. This season is all about the ‘70s look. Hot tip: Dig out your mum’s old photos for added inspiration.
Make it maxi
AH: “This is biggest trend to come out of this summer. Dresses, jumpsuits and skirts are all flowy and full length. High slits and plunging necklines have been added to modernise the look.”
AH: “It’s not a new trend, but it’s bigger than ever before this season. Lightweight denim is being used in shift dresses, A-line skirts and even trench coats. It's no longer just denim shorts – girls are wearing denim head to toe.”
AH: “Off the shoulder is everywhere. It has moved into playsuits, crop tops, maxi dresses and party dresses. From very casual to occasion wear, baring your shoulders is where it's at.”
Wrap it up
“Laced-up footwear is dominating the market. They’re all over blogs and Instagram right now. Starting with lace-up suede heels over the cooler months, it’s all about the sandals right now. Footwear designers have promised this trend will be sticking around, so it's a good investment for your shoe wardrobe.”
“Skin tones are the colour of the season. Look to hues like mocha, blush and nude being layered head to toe.”
How to perfect the party dress look:
No one wants to look vanilla, right? We asked Hodgman how to mix it up and catch everyone's attention on your next night out – without overdoing it.
AH: “Select one piece to shine. By that I mean only choose one accessory out of your shoes, clutch, jewellery or headpiece that you want to stand out. My favourite for this season would be a pair of statement heels, [but] remember to aim for the pair that will withstand the evening. There's nothing worst then cutting a great evening short because your feet hurt.”
What's hot to shop right now:
These are the affordable (and hottest!) buyer-approved pieces to add to your collection for the summer ahead. The best part? They won’t break the bank.
AH: “At Showpo, we’re excited about injecting some fresh summer pieces and accessories into our wardrobes. We will be stocking up on flirty party dresses, a sexy swim piece, floaty dresses for the hot summer days, and key summer additions like a new sun hat and a pool toy.”
Festive season style tips and tricks
Grab your notepad: Here’s what you need to pay attention to.
AH: “The festive season is jam-packed with awesome events and you want to get a few wears out of each look without looking like you wore the same thing twice, especially if you felt great wearing it. A multi-way dress is a great solution to help mix up your style.”Showpo Anyway You Want Dress, $65
AH: “Festive parties are often shared with our work colleges. Prevent any mishaps with nipple covers.”Showpo Nipple Covers in Nude, $12
AH: “Opt for lip stain instead of a traditional lipstick, lip stains last longer and in my opinion look better! If you're sipping back a few glasses, this will keep you looking fresh all night.”Showpo Jeffree Star Masochist Liquid Lipstick, $32
