Doom DLC Unto The Evil releases today
Bethesda has announced the first Doom DLC, titled Unto The Evil. Check out the trailer below.
Bethesda has announced the first lot of multiplayer DLC for 2016's Doom at this year's QuakeCon. The trailer below shows three new maps – Cataclysm, Offering and Ritual – one new weapon and item, the kinetic mine and UAC EMG pistol. There's also new robotic armour sets and taunts and a brand-new playable demon, The Harvester.
Beefing up Doom's multiplayer is a welcome move. When we reviewed Doom back in May, we found the multiplayer experienced paled in comparison to the frantic action of the single-player campaign.
At first glance the three new maps look a bit same-same, showcasing nothing too far from what we've already seen in Doom's initial multiplayer offering.
The more exciting features are undoubtedly the two new weapons. The Kinetic Mine acts more or less like your standard proximity mine. Place on a discrete surface with significant thoroughfare and watch it throw itself at an enemy when they get too close, gibbing any poor soul unlucky to get close enough.
The UAC EMG Pistol also looks like it packs a punch. Though its design doesn't differ too much from the standard issue pistol, we see a brief glimpse of a player turning an enemy into a cloud of blood and guts with a charged shot. While the standard pistol was a last resort, the UAC EMG looks like it will be a significant part of a marine's arsenal.
Doom's Unto the Evil DLC is available to download from today on PS4 ($22.95), Xbox One ($24.15), and PC (US$14.99).
