Foxtel's foray into the world of Internet TV, Foxtel Now offers an online, on-demand streaming service for all programming available on regular Foxtel.
With Foxtel Now, you're able to watch aired shows at a later date or watch your favourite episodes again and again. Plus, you're able to take them mobile. You can download the app for compatible mobile phones and tablets (or even laptops if you have a Wi-Fi connection or dongle) and watch your favourite shows on the go.
The great thing about Foxtel Now is that it enables you to take everything you love about Foxtel with you. But, of course, you can watch it at home as well.
However, in order to watch Foxtel Now, you'll need to make sure you're using a compatible device – be it a smart TV, computer, smartphone or tablet, or a variety of other streaming devices. If you're not sure whether your preferred device (or devices – you can connect to Foxtel Now on up to five per subscription!) are covered, don't worry. Below you'll find the complete list of all Foxtel Now compatible devices. Just be aware that you can only watch Foxtel Now on any two of these devices at a single time.
It's worth mentioning that some devices may still refer to Foxtel Now under its previous name, Foxtel Play. These devices will not have access to the full range of Foxtel Now features, such as high definition streaming.
The best way to watch Foxtel Now is through the Foxtel Now Box. Through the device, you'll be able to stream TV in both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD).
You can also access free-to-air TV and the Google Play store via the Foxtel Now box. As an added bonus the Foxtel Now box has Chromecast built-in.
Other handy features is the continue watching option, adding shows to your watchlist, pause and rewind broadcasts up to 30 minutes and the trending section.
An easy way to watch Foxtel Now on your PC or Mac is through the Google Chrome web player, which requires nothing more than the latest version of the Google Chrome web browser. Through Google Chrome, you'll be able to stream TV in both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD).
You can also watch Foxtel Now by downloading the older Foxtel Play program onto your computer. The Foxtel Play program only supports SD and lacks some of the new features available in Google Chrome.
For PCs, the Foxtel Play program requires a machine that has a minimum operating system of Windows XP with Internet Explorer 8 or above.
For Macs, the Foxtel Play program needs a minimum operating system of Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 or Mac OS X Lion 10.7 with Safari version 5 or above.
Please note, Footy Play is not available for viewing on a PC or Mac.
Foxtel Now is compatible with a wide range of smartphones and tablets through the Foxtel Now app.
Apple users can download the iOS Foxtel Now app to any iPad 2 or above, iPhone 4s or above, or iPod Touch 5 or above running at least iOS 8.0.
Android users can download the Android Foxtel Now app on any mobile or tablet device running Android 4.1 or above.
Telstra TV allows you to download the Foxtel Now app. From there you simply login with your Foxtel customer details and you can begin watching.
One of the great functionalities of this option is it gives you the same user experience as using a Foxtel Now box.
Foxtel Now works with the Xbox One, though it may be branded under the older Foxtel Play name. You’ll need a Xbox Live subscription to access Foxtel Now on Xbox.
To log in, sign into Xbox Live, then to the TV and movies page. Here, you’ll find the Foxtel Play tile to download the app.
Foxtel Now works with all models of Sony PlayStation 3 and Sony PlayStation 4, albeit under the older branding of Foxtel Play.
For Sony PlayStation 3, follow these steps:
1. Sign into the PlayStation Network with your PSN account.
2. Find the TV/Services icon in the main menu.
3. Choose My Channels to find and download the Foxtel Play app.
For Sony PlayStation 4, follow these steps:
1. Sign into the PlayStation Network with your PSN account.
2. Continue onto the TV and Video section.
3. Next, choose the Foxtel Play icon to download the app.
All Google Chromecast devices support Foxtel Now via the Foxtel Now mobile app. Simply select the Chromecast option in the Foxtel Now app on your smartphone or tablet and you'll be able to stream live and catch-up TV in both SD and HD to your Chromecast device.

The compatible devices listed below should come pre-loaded with the Foxtel Play app, which is the name Foxtel Now was operating under until recently. Simply open the Samsung Smart Hub on your device (there should be a button on your remote control) and choose the Foxtel Play app.
The compatible devices listed below should come pre-loaded with the Foxtel Play app, which is what Foxtel Now was known as until recently.
Foxtel Now lets you stream content at one of two quality levels: standard definition (SD) and 720p high definition (HD). To stream in SD, you'll need a minimum Internet speed of 3Mbps. For 720p HD, the minimum speed increases to 7Mbps.
You'll want to note, though, that only select content on Foxtel Now is available in HD. Some channels and on-demand videos can only be streamed in standard definition.
Like all streaming services, Foxtel Now can chew through a lot of your monthly data cap if you're not careful. While the amount of data Foxtel Now uses can change depending on the speed of your Internet connection and what content you're watching, as a general guide it won't exceed 1,310MB per hour at HD video quality. If that's a bit steep for you, switching to SD will bring usage down to no more than 470MB per hour.
However, Foxtel Broadband customers don't have to worry about data usage as all Foxtel Now content is unmetered through the service. That means you can binge on as much Game of Thrones as you like without worrying about blowing through your monthly data cap.
One last thing you'll want to remember: if you’re streaming Foxtel Now on a mobile device, unless you’re using Wi-Fi or have an unlimited data plan, you will eat into your allocated mobile data. Since data caps on mobile plans are a lot lower than home broadband plans, it can be all too easy to exceed your quota and end up with a bill the size of a small country's GDP.

I have a Hitachi smart tv and do not have the Foxtel app and cannot work out how to download. I have Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Netrange, Foxxum, Seasa, Screencast, but no Foxtel app. Can you help?
Hi Tania,
Thanks for getting in touch with Finder. I hope all is well with you. 😃
Hitachi Smart TVs does not have a pre-installed Foxtel app. For this reason, you would need to download the app manually from the app store. Thus, you need to go to the app store, download Foxtel app, and start watching Foxtel on your TV.
If you cannot locate the app store or don’t see Foxtel app offered, please contact your device manufacturer to learn how you can access Foxtel.
I hope this helps. Should you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach us out again.
Have a wonderful day!
Cheers,
Joshua
