There is a new coach at the helm, but the pressure will be just as intense for the Dragons.

New coach Anthony Griffin will be under the pump from the word go after replacing Dragons great Paul McGregor, who was sacked in August last year. The Red V fans are notoriously unforgiving and do not tolerate failure at their club. After two years of mediocrity, Griffin will be desperate to turn things around but it will be a huge challenge.

It has already been a rocky pre-season with captain Cameron McInnes suffering a year-ending knee injury. Five-eighth Corey Norman will also miss the opening round after copping a suspension for bringing the game into disrepute for his role in a street brawl. The departures of veteran forwards Tyson Frizell and James Graham also won't help Griffin's cause.

How to watch St George Illawarra Dragons NRL matches

The Dragons kick off their new campaign at home to rivals Cronulla Sharks. The issue for many fans is the match isn't on free-to-air television. In fact only one of the Dragons' first six matches is on Channel 9.

So for the best viewing options for fans of the Red V, you will need a Foxtel or Kayo Sports subscription. We have put together a Kayo vs Foxtel guide so you can see how they compare. Otherwise check out our how to watch the 2021 NRL season here.

Kayo currently has a 14-day free trial for new users. If you then decide to sign up, a Basic subscription is $25 a month and gives you access to two devices. For $35 a month you get a third screen.

The streaming platform has a number of features such as SplitView, where you can watch four sports at once, Interactive Stats, Kayo Minis and No Spoilers. In total Kayo has more than 50 sports.

St George Illawarra Dragons history

One of the proudest and most decorated clubs in rugby league history, the Dragons' performance last season was simply unacceptable.

While 2020 put them firmly under a microscope, the reality is the joint-venture club has only reached the finals in two of the past nine campaigns. It appears they have lost too many quality players to compete with the NRL's best.

New captain Ben Hunt needs to lift his game while recruits Andrew McCullough and Jack Bird will help guide a young side crying out for strong leadership.
