It's the dawn of a new era for the Bulldogs following a roster clean-out and the arrival of their new mentor Trent Barrett, who worked as Penrith's attack coach last year. Canterbury haven't featured in the finals since 2016 and Barrett will have his work cut out to get them into the top eight after they finished 15th last year.

However, the Bulldogs have opened the chequebook to entice some promising players to Belmore, headlined by unwanted Roosters halfback Kyle Flanagan. The 22-year-old is now the main playmaker and will be determined to prove the Roosters made a huge mistake in letting him go.

Ex-Raider and NSW Origin representative Nick Cotric is another quality buy. He will help take the pressure off the forwards with his charges from the backfield. Finally, former Rabbitohs fullback Corey Allan, who made his Origin debut for Queensland in November, has joined the Bulldogs and will add to their strike power. The top eight might be too much for the Bulldogs but they will cause a few upsets along the way.
