What is the Nokia 3310 3G?
The original Nokia 3310 was a classic in its time, owned and beloved by millions of phone users the world over. When Nokia, or at least HMD Global, the company that owns the naming rights for Nokia phones, announced it was bringing the Nokia 3310 back, it created an instant media frenzy. The primary problem for Australians keen on the reborn Nokia 3310 announced at Mobile World Congress 2017 was that it was 2G only, which meant that buying one wasn't a very sensible move.
Fast forward a few months, and Nokia has announced a 3G-capable version of the Nokia 3310, set to go on sale in Australia in mid-October 2017. Like its predecessor, it's a feature phone with a focus on calling, texting and very limited 3G functions. Simple doesn't have to mean undesirable, however, because if what you want is just a simple phone, the Nokia 3310 3G could well fit the bill.
Is the Nokia 3310 3G powerful?
Not at all, but then it doesn't really need to be. There's a scant 64MB of storage on board, most of which is taken up with the preinstalled apps. But this is very much a feature phone, not one you're meant to tax with lots of heavy duty applications anyway.
Does the Nokia 3310 3G have a good camera?
Again, the answer has to be no. There's a single rudimentary 2MP camera on the rear, and a very simple camera app pre-installed. If you like your photos on the impressionistic side or yearn for the days of fairly bad smartphone cameras, it could have some appeal, but we figure both are fairly small niche markets.
How do I charge the Nokia 3310 3G?
The Nokia 3310 3G charges its 1200mAh battery via micro USB. Unlike most modern smartphones, the Nokia 3310 3G utilises a fully removable battery that is accessed via the plastic rear cover.
Is the Nokia 3310 3G water resistant?
Not at all, so it's important that you don't get it wet. Sure, it's cheap to replace, but that's a waste of an otherwise simple but functional phone.
When will the Nokia 3310 3G be available in Australia?
The Nokia 3310 3G will go on sale in Australia in mid-October 2017 through Vodafone, Optus, Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi.
How much does the Nokia 3310 3G cost?
The Nokia 3310 3G will cost $89.95 outright with no noted plans for contract availability, which isn't surprising given that low asking price.
Nokia 3310 3G: Review
We've run the Nokia 3310 3G through its paces for our review, rather predictably finding it a fairly ordinary phone:
"The 3310 3G could make a serviceable backup phone to throw into a drawer for any instances where your existing handset is lost or broken."
