Robot vacuum cleaners are quickly becoming an indispensable feature of modern life, as more and more consumers realise one of the most despised household chores can be delegated to a robotic appliance. However, scepticism around effectiveness, user-friendliness and cost have plagued the industry. But if there's a device to silence all the doubters, it's the Ecovacs Deebot X1.

With huge steps forward in design, functionality and interactivity, Ecovacs has crafted a truly premium machine with the X1. Here's a rundown of what you need to know about this exciting new appliance.

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni

Ecovacs
The flagship of the X1 line is the Omni. Its 5,000Pa suction is among the most powerful you can find in a device of this size. The Omni maximises this power with a 4-stage deep cleaning process, reaching levels of 95% cleaning efficiency.

It also features the most powerful mopping system ever found in an Ecovacs product. With rotation speeds up to 180rpm, stubborn challenges like milk, coffee and soy sauce don't stand a chance.

The X1 utilises TrueMapping 2.0 technology to accelerate the mapping process – it can perform a "quick map" of your entire home in just 20 minutes, and begin efficiently cleaning. Aiding this mapping functionality is an innovation known as 3D Artificial Intelligence Visual Interpretation (AIVI).

Using laser and visual sensing advances, the Omni can precisely navigate your home environment, avoiding obstacles like toys, socks and U-bend chairs. Ecovacs has made use of Autopilot technology to refine the Omni's ability to avoid objects even further.

We got a chance to see these features in action, and they're seriously impressive. The Omni can go right up to objects without touching them, ensuring entire areas of your home aren't left dirty just because there's a plastic dinosaur on the floor.

YIKO

Love voice assistants? Ecovacs thought it was about time to bring one to the home robotics game, so it did just that with YIKO. With intelligent AI voice interaction technology and voice semantics from Google, you'll be able to quickly and efficiently control the X1 Omni like never before, creating a truly hands-free experience.

With the associated Ecovacs app, you can label items in a 3D map of your home, and instruct your Omni to clean under and around specific items. You can also use this app to access the Omni's camera and get a remote view of your home.

Jacob Jensen design

Speaking of a completely hands-free experience, the Omni is also ground-breaking in its use of a Jacob Jensen-designed docking station. The prestigious Danish company has added touches of European minimalism to the appliance, meaning you'll be thrilled to display the device, and its home.

The Omni emphasises its hands-free nature with automated self-cleaning. When it returns to its station, it will not only empty itself, but also refill the water tank and clean the mop, before drying it with hot air to remove odours. It's never been easier to simply forget about your robot vacuum while it cleans your home.

Buy the Ecovacs X1 Omni

The Ecovacs X1 Omni has a recommended retail price of $2,499. It can be purchased from The Good Guys, Bing Lee, Godfreys, JB Hi-Fi or Ecovacs.

Ecovacs X1 Turbo

Ecovacs
Love what you're reading, but would prefer a cheaper product that's a bit lighter on bells and whistles? The Ecovacs X1 Turbo is a similarly impressive appliance, sharing features with the Omni like AIVI 3D, TrueMapping 2.0, 5,000Pa suction and YIKO voice assistant. It has a smaller docking station and a heightened focus on mopping, making it ideal for homes with tiles and floorboards.

The X1 Turbo carries a RRP of $2,099, and is available on Amazon and eBay. Use the code TOP5IT for $100 off on eBay.
