The ZTE Blitz is an Android smartphone available exclusively on the Optus network for a highly affordable price. The handset itself is made by Chinese company ZTE, one of the top five smartphone manufacturers in that region.
It features a metal unibody frame, with a 5-inch HD IPS screen with a 720 x 1280-pixel resolution. It works with Optus' speedy 4G Plus network so you can get download speeds of up to 150Mbps via the Blitz. The metal frame adds a little weight, but the phone is still just 140g and measures 143.8 x 70.2 x 7.9mm.
Unfortunately, the ZTE Blitz isn't water resistant. You'll need to keep an eye on it when you're around water, because it has no specified water resistance.
The ZTE Blitz isn't particularly powerful, which isn’t super-surprising. The ZTE Blitz has a MediaTek Quad-core running at 1.0GHz and there's 1GB of RAM. That’s actually the same spec processor as you’ll see in the ZTE Zip which is just $79. So, while it’s not too bad for a budget phone, it’s certainly way down the lower end of the power spectrum.
There’s 8GB of on-board storage and you can bump that up to 32GB using a MicroSD card. It also has a fingerprint sensor for biometric security, something you don’t see in many phones of this price.
The rear camera is 8 megapixels with autofocus and an LED flash – pretty standard but more than good enough for putting some snaps up on social media. The front-facing camera is 5 megapixels, which is pretty good for video calling. Speaking of video, you can record at 30fps in 720p which, again, is great for social media.
The ZTE Blitz uses a standard MicroUSB port for charging like every smartphone that either isn’t made by Apple or hasn’t gone USB-C yet. The battery itself is again in the mid-range with 2,500mAh of power.
That’s not going to get you all-day video watching but if you’re not glued to the Blitz all day, the low-power processor means you’ll get some decent life.
You can get the ZTE Blitz right now exclusively from Optus. It's just $149 for the ZTE Blitz, although Optus also offers an Afterpay option of four payments of $37.25.
OptusPay is a straightforward payment plan system. Here's how it works in four steps.
