The Castle House, as the locals call it.

You and up to 7 guests can now rent the Kerrigans' holiday house from The Castle on Airbnb. Just remember, "your coming to The Castle in Bonnie Doon for the serenity and the smell of the two stroke if you think its a party venue "YOUR DREAMIN"." Or so the Airbnb listing promises.

The real-life location seems pretty spot-on, supposedly being only an hour away from "Mt Bulla" and across the road from Lake Eildon.

But while the serenity is real, the listing does mention that some passing-by visitors make a habit of dropping in or photographing the property, so if you aren't keen on temporarily becoming a relic of Australiana, you might want to book elsewhere.

It's safe to say The Castle in Bonnie Doon must do quite well for itself. All of Australia's most profitable Airbnb locations are about the skiing, fishing, boating and wineries, and this property managed to offer all of them, doing justice to its premium-ish prices.

Stays start at $200 per night, plus another $35 per person after 5 guests, and $100 to use the poolroom. The Castle fans are definitely more likely to get their money's worth here, with memorabilia and references scattered around, plus a copy of the DVD for introducing newcomers, of course.

Even without so many actually good points, the house would probably punch above its weight simply by being part of Australian film history. That might be worth remembering. If you're looking for more pocket money, rent out your house out at a movie set before putting it on Airbnb.

Everything has to be filmed somewhere though, and it looks like The Castle in Bonnie Doon has been up on Airbnb for about a year so far. Makes you wonder what hidden gems you'll find on other rental sites.
